Like the question states, however here is the page t help you figure it out, it's kind of tedious (especially for B types), but that's what i'm basing this on.

Personally, I live in the suburbs of Chicago, so I live in a DFa climate (hot summer continental)

Csa in Sacramento.

I think Los Angeles County is considered Mediterranean climate.
BSk with microclimates of Csb along the coast. As you go higher in elevation you BSk transitions to Csa, then Csb, maybe Dsb at the highest elevations, then back into the steppe climates east of the ranges.

I don't get the 3 word coding

but summers can be as hot as 30+ degrees celsius, and winters can go as far as minus 30 celsius.. so whatever letters fit.

Does this..... only apply to areas in the states? Because... I don't understand it....at all....

No it applies to the entire world, we'd have a lot of underrepresented climates if it only was for the US
