what do ye intp's make of the 2012 mayan prophecy?

My understanding is there is no actual Mayan prophesy... Just that the Mayan calendar restarts on Dec 23 2012. Alot of people have attached their own predictions to that date. The date has some astronomical significance that I don't recall.

I think that after many years of writing this calendar they just got flat out tired of doing it and the date at which they stopped was just as good as any other date to stop.

I feel that if anything is going to happen it will be from solar flares, which from the science aspect is already predicted happen as it is, we just do not know the severity. Coincidence, maybe. I just do not see what difference it would make just because our planet lines up with a few things is a good enough cause for alarm.

Whats the point in worrying over something that can neither be proven nor disproven until the time comes. I don't bother with thinking about it.

In y2k all the computers will launch the nukes and the banks will be stabbed to death.

So what if it has already passed? I say that's when the world will end anyway.

Apparently the end is supposed to be when the galactic center, the Sun and the Earth line up in one straight line.

I also hear people speculate that the Earth's magnetic field will flip as a result...

I do believe that an apocalyptic collapse will occur in my lifetime, but I'm not scared. I'm getting ready for it if anything. Life will go on and change.

i read that the earth's magnetic field would flip and cause mutations in genetic material and that we would undergo a major evolutionary leap. my daughter has cystic fibrosis which is a hereditary illness and i came across an article where they tried to change the genetic code in mice using an electro magnetic field and it worked. i thought it was a strange coincidence.

I agree with this.

Nothing will happen because the Mayan calender is not predicting anything other than the end of a period of time.

I only think "boooooooooooooo, boring; shut up about it everyone."

2012? Nothing will not happen. Nothing cannot exist. everything that exists will happen. 2012 is a joke. Depending on the who's who, 2012 is actually 2010, if your are speaking litterally Anno Domini. However, since no one has been able to identify just what year said Domini was born, 2012 has no real involvement on RL.

The Mayan calendar is a circle, no begining, no end, it just starts over. If I put a mark on a rubber band every day until I run out of room for marks will the world come to an end?

Once, I even read this whole website about it; pages and pages of crap. Biggest joke ever.

I don't understand why some ancient calendar ending is significant in any way. If I recall correctly it only signifies the end of a cycle anyway, not the end of time. I take the 2012 prophesy as seriously as the prophecies of the Christian rapture or any other religious doomsday claims... that is; not seriously at all.
