Yeah, I did get it off a website.. I've also watched numerous documentary's on the "2012 doomsday" because I was interested in what everyone had to say about it. I'm not saying that's what's going to happen, they don't really have concrete evidence, but interesting to say the least.

NASA - The Great 2012 Doomsday Scare

There's NASA's view on it.
...i like NASA's take
I've had about a hundred Conversations over this, a few of them mind blowingly hilarious. I've also heard many a person and group's view on the matter. SO, it is story time.

Let's start with the funny one, imagine a Wednesday night, playing on GTAIV free roam on Live. Of course we were harassing others just for the sheer lulz. Before long a conversation of 2012 starts up and branches out to Power buttons and the Matrix. The person began to talk about we all live in the MAtrix and that the MAyans used the stars to predict the events in the matrix, and found out on Dec. 21, 2012 the Controllers would perform a "Reboot" on the MAtrix. Followed by a hate storm of rage and flamings, though I have to admit it was worth a good laugh.

On the topic of Indigo Children (If you've ever read about them) They were sent here to change the world and what not and 2012 is the year where they all change everything. Dec 21, 2012. The Indigo children will lead a revolution and the universe will align perfectly, invoking a change in the all human's DNA structure letting them transcende above common life that now exsists on Earth.

I'm not endorsing these stories to any length, though it's possible we may see a few riots or so. It won't do any more harm than Y2k. The Mayan calanedar ends in 2012 and restarts, perhaps that's where the stars were when they first devolped the Calendar and it resets to keep it's balance. There's alot of possibliities though I dare not tread in those waters, maybe we'll end up in a world like the Booc of ELi or something. Who knows really?

i hope these strange things start to happen, things that no one notices at first, small changes. like farts suddenly starts to smell good. and uwe boll makes a good movie. no one links these events to any global event, just small oddeties in seemingly no relation to each other. but slowly, over the years, maybe hundreds of years, everything is fucked up. maybe for the better.
What exactly do I make of it? The little Mayan man got sick of writing, and December 21, 2012 was the last day to be jotted down before he went insane, running to the chief begging to be sacrificed and to be rid of the world's first 9-5 desk job.
It's nonsense. Things will go down on a cosmic level but i don't think it'll be that dramatic.
Nothing monumental is going to happen, but some nutjob is going to do something. It'll be yet another self-fulfilling prophecy, like the foundation of Israel; sure, it said it was going to happen in the bible, but if you get enough people committed to a cause, it will come true.

It's gonna be interesting to see what occurs though.
Where did this thread come from? Fun Fun.

Ya Mayan prophecy... I got a bridge I would like to sell anyone that buys into this shit. I remember Y2k and all the people that stocked up and canned soup and ammo. The stores were running out of bottled water and dried goods. I knew a guy that sandbagged his basement for Y2K. I got some stock market ideas for when this date gets closer. My brother wants to start a limited liability company for 2012 disaster insurance. If anything happens, he said he would just fold the company. That is the best pro-active approach I have heard yet.

The Mayans looked at the stars at night and thought deeply on advanced subjects. Modern people look at old rocks and think slightly. I would not trade my Timex for their calendar; no matter what my TV says.

You guys DO realize that the Mayan calendar DOES have astrological significance, right? It's based on the universal cycle of the Milky Way.

The calendar is more-accurate than the Gregorian calendar as well. :\

Any extrapolations of what may happen are subject to the individual's personal belief.
Personally, I believe it's 'bout time for Ragnarok.

I am well aware that my calendar is not as advanced as the Mayans. It completely lacks the ability to tell me the day I will perish.

I think its kinda funny... I feel like there really is no need to plan anything after that date, because we're all gonna die anyway :)
It could work like a kinda wake up call too... All the things you want to do before you die, why not do it now/before 2012? Why wait, if you want to do it before you die, since you could as well die tomorrow, or later today? Or next week maybe...

I have a lot of things on my 'todo list' of things to do before I die, some of them more serious than others. Some I have done, some is less important. But I always thought that getting an education would be one of the most important things for me to do with my life.
I'm graduating, wich is sort of an education here, in the summer 2011. Thats also a very humeristic motivational factor for me, for not dropping out ;)
Lets measure it up.

We are supposed to be entering the age of Aquarius soon.
There will be a solar storm with power equal to or greater than 100 million hydrogen bombs. Massive solar storm to hit Earth in 2012 with 'force of 100m bombs' - Yahoo! India News
The Mayans did predict a galactic alignment at that time and scientists have not said that it would not occur. I'd like to note that in NASA's article about doomsday 2012 they were talking about a PLANETARY ALIGNMENT. That is not the same as a GALACTIC ALIGNMENT. Planetary would mean that all the planets are in a line while a galactic alignment is the earth, the sun, and the core of the Milky-way galaxy.
2012 will come and go just like Y2K did and life will go on just as it always has been. When the real end arrives hardly anyone will notice before it's too late!

The actual physical poles of the Earth will not change, at least not suddenly. The (our) moon actually keeps the Earth tilted on it's axis. Now, there is a possibility that the "magnetic" poles will flip flop and the consequences of that are still unknown.

They don't know what's going to happen really.. December 21, 2012 the earth is going to align with the galactic equator. Here's some info:

Well what does that mean and what does it have to do with humanities future? In the milky way, which is an active galaxy, our solar system moves above and below this galactic plain. As stars and planetary systems, including our own approach this galactic plain the gravitational influence increases, which disturbs the stability of the planets, including earth. The passage through the most dense portion of the gravitational plain is the direct result of the devastation cycles and pole shifts that we see recorded throughout earths history. This distinct nature of our solar system is how many ancient civilizations based there calenders, which are incredibly accurate.

Although many of us have heard or are aware of the ancient Mayan calender, a lot of us either don’t understand it or simple don’t know how it works. Well to start the ancient Mayans had a very accurate understanding of our solar system and its cycles. Their long count calender is most significant of their calenders because according to Mayanist (people who study Ancient Mayan People and culture) it ends on the specific date of December 21 2012, which coincides with modern day astronomers, who believe that is about the time that our planet alignment takes place with the galactic equator.

Modern scientists have a theory that is quite similar to the Mayan prophecies of the planets alignment. This theory is called pole shifting, in which the position of the north and south pole change, which could cause world wide disaster, massive tsunamis could wipe out coastal cities, hurricanes on every continent, it would be major catastrophe, unlikely as it seems a Princeton University study suggest the poles have shifted before and that the north pole was in the middle of the pacific, which would put Alaska at the equator.

This doomsday date has been prophisized for thousands of years by the Mayans, Zulus, Incas, Hopi Indians, and many other ancient civilizations. Some believe it is a day of enlightenment, some believe the pole shift theory, and some believe that gods will come that day. Whatever the case may be and with some many different scenarios I hope the best one plays out.

Who the fuck knows.

Yeah, I remember the end of 1999, all the stores running out of bottled water and then a few days after the New Year some of those same people who had stocked up on water and everything else, tried to return it to the stores attempting to get their money back!

I also remember this certain "Y2K" store nearby that began selling all sorts of survival goods. They closed promptly on the evening of Dec. 31st 1999 never to be seen or heard from again. Their prices were a bit high and I had hoped that maybe there would be a markdown on prices the day after, however the next day the store was completely empty, not even the shelves remained!
