I've thought about posting this on the Myers Briggs, Philosophy or Debate Forum but I'd rather hear about interesting ENTP stuff about what gets you going in life. I'd really rather not read about some NF "Let's make the world a better place!" or SJ "Let's get everyone on a working schedule, committed to a routine plan, then enslave them by always using that committment as a reason to bitch at them when they get off schedule!" NO! I don't want to hear that!

So therefore, ENTPs what makes you want to get out of bed everyday? Is it the want to make everyday an exercise of your creative minds? Is it to find how many rules you can break and make a profit out of doing so? Or is it something else entirely?

well, what drives me forward in life is knowing that i will experience adventure and get caught up in many different profitable ventures. It feels good knowing that i have the creative mind that can turn my world filled with wealth and recognition.

Adventuring and exploring. I want to travel the world and learn new skills and have been doing it a little at a time. I've gone backpacking, rappelling, joined the military, owned a motorcycle, taken Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and plan to S.C.U.B.A. very soon and skydive after that. The world is too big and interesting for me to ignore it and live a life of routine.

To fund all of that, I've been trying the off beaten path. Everyone likes to start at the bottom of the corporate ladder and work their way up. I've managed to find myself invited to rich people's parties and make connections. After a couple of years of doing this, people in high places want to take me under their wing and show me the ropes of real business. I'm talking good investments, client deals and such that bring in good turnover without dealing with the 9-5 grind, 5 days a week.

Why even bother doing that? If you beat me in Brazilian jujitsu I'll give you my kidney and you can probably sell it to a Mexican drug cartel for like 200g.

For me it's pretty simple. I have an almost-4-year-old and I'm pretty much a single dad. I wouldn't have missed being a father for anything in the world, but I often wish I had entered into it with a woman who wasn't as troubled.

I do--however--vaguely remember having the luxury of worrying if my goals in life were worthy. For me it went high school->three years working grunt jobs->college->goof-off year full of mountainbikes and parties ->work, work, work, work. Through it all I had intermediate goals that were achieved. So I'm happy.

Passion for making a success of my entrepreneurship is what drives me. I have one company underway currently, and am in the process of starting a second one to bring in some immediate income while the first one grows.

I am driven by a desire to be 100% independent and to be able to do whatever I want when I want.

I wake up, can't guarantee there is anything more or anything after what I see here, so might as well make the best of it. I'm sure eventually I'll find some reason worth pursuing but until then, it's wake up, hope I'm around some interesting people and explore some thought or place in my mind.

Knowing there is still much to be discovered. The possibility of changing mentalities - couple of intermingling minds often work better than just one. The potential for alteration - anything can be improved provided you have knowledge, understanding, and a touch of mad ingenuity.

Possibilities drive me more than probabilities, sometimes drive over them. Some rules are just pennies of human principles. Who cares. I want to be able to play with the world as much as my senses and body allow me, any way I can (be it through understanding the way it works, interacting with it, etc, etc). I dunno, everything about it is fascinating and anything about it can be creatively transcended with just your mind.

That's what the human is here for~

I'm with Slowpoke. I have two kids and a mortgage. I have to get up in the morning. I don't analyse it.

Having chosen a very rigidly organised career (which nonetheless allows me plenty of scope for independent thinking and ideas and a fair amount of autonomy) I have always had to get up in the morning. It sucks, really. 11 years and three months til retirement.....and I'll tell you then why I get up. Probably it will be a need to walk the dog.

I can get very nihilistic when I look for my own motivation. I think we spend our lives searching for meaning in things, and to have to have an explanation or meaning for something, like "what motivates me? What is the point?" can lead me into being very negative indeed. Hence the above meanderings on small-horizon reasons for getting up in the morning.

Curiosity. There is always something new to do.

And at the moment Uni cause I'm off too St Andrews to do Maths in september which I have been waiting 3 years to do. St Andrews is a brilliant uni especially for me, some people would hate it normally the open day is enough to scare them away as its tiny - 8000 students - but very multinational and has no clubs but its full of close communities and house parties because of that and loads of drama clubs!

Other than that just the want to achieve something great because I have the potential to so I should. And to generally be a very naturally happy person!

I guess to make it short and sweet, I want to learn as much as I can about the people and the world around me. I also want to achieve my creative goals as well.

Being the [[true me]] every day waiting to see...

societies crumble.
people realizing their place in the world.
incompetence in a position of competence.
destruction is not evil; masks are.
Monkey see, monkey do.
Lies cover more lies.

In my world, I get to do whatever I want. That is what I am striving for, me, the true me not bound by any tether.

If today, I don't want to work and my boss calls me up or my customers complain, I tell them I am not working.
If today, a city is destroyed. I don't care.
If today, someone dies. Fate's doing.
If today, I die. Fate's doing.
If today, Johnny slit his mothers throat for a nickel and I knew his mother. I talk to Johnny and ask him questions and slit him if I want.
If today, I want to conquer the world. I will but I won't... the world is boring, I'm not!

Hmm... Keirsey really got his descriptions down! You ENTPs really do love creativity and adventure. And apparently, from Alfeda's comment, he really got ENTJs down too!

So then guys and gals of the ENTP forum, what would happen if someone altered your mind to where you were at an SJs level of creativity and adventure? How would you all react?

I fit with these. I want to know everything I can and experience as much as I can and achieve. I'd also like to make people happier and help them with their lives but that's up to them.
