I came across an interesting game recently called Kerbal Space Program (beta) where you construct various spaceplanes and rockets for no set purpose except to overcome physics and put your rockets/instruments/modules/landers/probes/rovers all around a realistic solar system. You can dock crafts in orbit to create ships that couldn't be launched from the surface to reach areas further away, as well as perform repairs and refueling operations by EVA or automatically.

As I've played this game I've learned actual orbital mechanics, how to read and use a gyroscope, the history of space exploration and increased my spatial reasoning ability, critical thinking and mission planning. I'm addicted.

What pushes your inner inventor?

Arduino, robots, homebrew applications, raspberry PIs, programming.

I'm constantly thinking of things I could make, solder together or program. I don't really have the resources though. My main obsession right now is to hack together a battery powered Super Nintendo controller with bluetooth, that I could use with my PC and my jailbroke iPhone.
