You can see from the post below that I definitely have a certain style of show that I prefer, so if you like historical dramas/period pieces you may like them as well.
Some of my favorites to binge-watch on Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc are:

Game of Thrones (HBO)
The Tudors (Netflix)
Reign (Netflix) although the costumes are not historically accurate, which is sometimes a bit difficult to get past haha
The Borgias (Netflix)
The Paradise (Netflix)
Sherlock (Netflix)
Doctor Who (Netflix)
Call the Midwife (Netflix)
RuPaul's Drag Race (Hulu)

Just finished watching an episode of Frasier with my parents, favorite show ever. (We're also pretty good at laughing at ourselves. They
call me Niles not infrequently, to give you an idea:)

I did get rather caught up in Downton Abbey, and I've even enjoyed some of the original Star Trek, they mostly kept in character well, and while I wasn't into the space stuff that much, though it is intriguing, there were often very human, universal themes in them which I liked.

Also I think I'll be watching Dr Who soon, thank you @arcanus_intus and @reisiger!

I've watched all episodes of:

MONK

Star Trek; Next Gen & Voyager
(and an assortment of episodes from the other versions)

Stargate SG-1

Stargate Atlantis

Touched by an Angel
· Hulu ·

More recently, I've watched most of:

Veggie Tales
· Netflix ·

Lots of HGTV & DIY network home improvement shows.
· Netflix ·
(so I can criticize / approve their inventiveness / efficiency of design.)

When calls the heart
· Netflix ·
(it's so sweet seeing people be nice to each other, I watch for the Fe ooooh ahhh's)

Fish tank Kings
(Love fishies as a hobby, again like to critique design, and it's uber cool how they put those things together)

Whatever I watch, I notice I need a bit of happiness to be in it, as well as the imagination. Unhappy things leave me feeling down and like I don't even have the energy to keep watching.

Anything that contains humour, taboo and makes the viewers see different sides of the same character. Starting with The Powerpuff Girls (1998) and finishing with Game of Thrones.

My top two favorite TV shows probably are:

Fargo and Sherlock.

The 2nd season of Fargo is one of the best around imho. Can't quite describe it, just amazing and you have to see it for yourself :p. Sherlock is intelligent, fun, but also exciting and upbeat.

I'm not a huge fan of shows that have really dark themes. Some people can binge watch Breaking Bad, for instance- me? No thanks. I like the show, just can't watch too much for the aforementioned reason.

Enjoyed:

Hannibal
Glee (but I barely remember it now)
Ugly Betty (but I barely remember it now)
Grey's Anatomy
Desperate Housewives
H20 (yes I know this is old)
Parks and Recreation (wanted to like it more but found the humour hit and miss, either I'd be laughing non-stop or wouldn't laugh once throughout an entire episode)

Currently enjoying:

Penny Dreadful
Simpsons
South Park
Family Guy
Bob's Burgers

Still would like to watch:

Vampire Diaries
Orange is the New Black
Breaking Bad
Friends
In Treatment

Started watching and got bored:

Game of Thrones (I think I got either half or all the way through season 3 then thought "I'm fucking dying this is so boring."
Broad City (I find the humour hit and miss, and too many weed jokes makes the writing seem like they've run out of ideas by the first couple of episodes which is unimpressive)
The Big Bang Theory (Boring, couldn't keep my attention)
How I Met Your Mother
That 70's Show
Frasier
Cheers (the last two were my dad's favourite shows when I was growing up and I detested them, they were so unbelievably boring)

The Fall
It's a bit slow to begin with but...I personally find the dialogue between the protagonist and the antagonist to be fascinating. It's also on the darker side just as a warning.

Shameless
Great character show. Great acting. As someone else said, it's a dramady.

The 100

I like this show for it's thought provoking moral dilemmas + characters once again. I can't get enough of it. It's like a combination between Lost and Battlestar Galactica in my opinion lol.

Being Human (UK version)
Loved this show. Fell in love with the characters even if the story lines are a bit all over the place sometimes. It's worth sticking with. When they get a new set of characters, I was skeptical, but those wind up being well done too.

Bates Motel
Once again, great characters/acting and story of course. Just watch it. Another dark one of course.

Firefly
This show has everything - comedy, romance, action, drama, great dialogue, great acting. I LOVE this show.

Parks and Rec
I love every single character on this show. The first season you might not be sold. The characters take time to come into themselves. I guess the writers didn't know what to do at first. Like Donna is completely different in the first season vs. the next...if I'm remembering right. So just stick with it. It's worth it if you're into awkward humor. It's way better than The Office, in my opinion and I liked The Office.

Spice & Wolf (Anime)
I love the dialogue in this (noticing a trend?) I'm also a sucker for romance so....you may or may not like it.
