He was wrong about everything and his theories were just BS. Why is he on a top 10 list of scientists.

Nothing, imo. He was a terrible philosopher too in spite of how people like to wank over him.

Give him a break, man.

He did pioneer the empirical method of research as we know it today. His study of constitutions is a good example. In thinking about what the best constitution for a city was, Plato used his own internal reasoning and conception of justice to come up with The Republic. Aristotle, on the other hand, send his team out to collect information on the constitutions of hundreds of city-states all over the Mediterranean, so he could compare them to figure out what actually worked. He tried to apply this same method to the physical sciences so far as he could, but he didn't have a lot to work with. So even though a lot of his theories were wrong, particularly those relating to physics and astronomy, he did help establish a more productive way of thinking.

Plus, he tutored Alexander the Great.

What impressive credentials. To tutor and encourage a man into pillaging and enslaving half the world.
Almost as impressive as doing it yourself, IMO.

Western philosophy for all its flaws at least tries to question the the ways of life.
I come from a mainly Islamic background (albeit agnostic now), and if you look at it's history you see the rejection of philosophy.

Plato and Aristotle are great philosophers. Not that there was anything they wrote that none of us couldn't figure out.
But they studied people, motivations, governance, justice, politics, rule, ethics...

Even today, a good read of Plato or Aristotle is applicable.
Is it anything mind blowing? Probably not, but then again, I think almost anyone who thinks about life in detail doesn't really find anything great about any philosopher. But the whole process and applying it in such details with empirical and rational thinking is what is great.

At least some university kid who actually reads Aristotle can gain an appreciation of the complexity of life. Instead of just saying government sucks. All politicians are crap. They see the complexities of politics. Of who gets to rule. How powerless rulers are...

Because science tends to have a history of outdated albeit useful models. Did you expect perfect models though out the history of science?

Aristotle got off his butt in the philosopher circles and looked at real stuff in order to try and understand it from reality up. He didn't have a lot of tech or convenient science textbooks at his disposal, or even giants like Bacon or Newton. He did well enough for where and when he was.
