It's summer. Open doors and windows inevitably lead to hearing the neighbours' music a bit more than usual. And what I'm currently hearing makes me wonder:

What's the appeal of *BOOM**BOOM**BOOM*? What's with the obsession with the lower frequency range? Can anyone explain this to me  ?

I can't for the life of me figure it out. I also can't figure out how people don't get that they are not the only people on the planet. Do they really believe we want to hear their music? Self indulgent, really.

I'm assuming you are talking about anything electronic like techno, house, DnB, Electro etc.

the answer is simple. the majority of electronic music is made for dancing and some people prefer dancing/grooving over singing/listening. even if it's just dancing in their heads.

Its to get hype. My infj best friend doesn't get it either. It effects the emotions.... makes your heart beat follow that beat..... gets you in a certain mood. Some of these sounds may mimic the way one thinks.... or may even enhance it.... increases perception.... maybe it increases adrenalin.... same reason why anyone would listen to Beethoven..... emotions. Hell some people just find it plain interesting.

Dancing. All about a beat you can dance to. Personally, I'd prefer big band, swing, and then some sultry jazz, but I'm an old soul, not exactly representing the masses over here.

Not to be a pain in the ass but....
Beethoven is my favorite composer. But my tastes have it's roots in an intellectual understanding of his work.

And I just don't like having to hear other people's stupid music. That was more of my point. But when I teach kickboxing, that is the type of music I have to use. But it serves more as a functional purpose.

This type of music can energise you due to it's aggressive nature. People like it because it can lift you up if it's good enough.

Admittedly it does cause a Mental Double Facepalm whenever I see someone with their car windows rolled down and that shit blaring through it for the whole damn world to hear.

Sex... it doesn't make the heart race so much as it makes the hips gyrate. :happy:Fortunately for everyone I boom boom with the windows closed because of the acoustics and the fact that no one should *boom* *boom* in public, that is really a private matter :laughing: Where's Elvis when you need him?

Well, yes, dancing is, after all, essentially just a mating ritual.

I don't really care what kind of music you listen to in private, but yeah, the people who load their cars up with amps, subwoofers and anything else to crank up the bass, then drive around with that stuff blasting so loud that it rattles the windows and shakes the pictures off your wall from two blocks away, blaring that boom boom boom music. It's annoying. Usually it's teen boys or post-teen up to early 20s. Do they think it attracts girls? Does it?

Hehehe....I remember back in the day we knew someone's boyfriend was coming by the fact that he was missing a muffler and hadn't had the money to get it replaced, LOL!

Not Native American Eagle dancing for sure as that is done alone and as a way of communicating with the Great Spirit orTurkish circle dancing around the bride to be at a Mandi.

The majority yes...but there are also the spiritual dances. I know we sexualize everything in this country but that doesn't mean everything is sexual in nature. Being able to move your body is a joy in and of itself

BTW...I've heard the song but first time ever seeing the video...LOL!

Actually, I happen to have a subwoofer in my car. Came with it, it's useful for being able to hear lower frequencies despite engine noise.

I can see this "excitement" thing, but can't people imagine that the people around them may not want to be exposed to that  ...?

Some music is best when it's loud. I may have inherited the LOUD MUSIC gene from my mother, when she would blast Queen for all the neighbors to hear from our family room. I hate *BOOM**BOOM**BOOM**BOOM* just as much as the next guy, but I'd be lying if I didn't blast some of my own electronica while I'm driving. I turn it down when I'm at a stop, and back up again when I'm moving. Of course, I don't think the bass speakers of my little Prius put out much *BOOM* to begin with, but it's enough for me in my little world. I am incapable of dancing to my highest potential (as much potential as a while male can muster!) when I am buckled up in my car, but it gets the job done, I suppose.:proud:

I think it's more annoying when people are *BOOM*ing to 'show-off,' rather than *BOOM*ing for their own gratification.
