Where did you think babies came from? If you thought about it at all

I've read some really interesting stories about it. For instance, a girl thought a bunch of babies hung out inside the mom's wedding ring until the mom rubbed it and one floated down to grow in her belly button. My thoughts on the matter weren't nearly as interesting. What kind of ridiculous ideas did you have?

Honestly, I didn't know about conception until I knew about mating...

My mum had a Cesarean when giving birth to me and my three siblings, and I was told in minimal detail how it worked at a young age.

So I believed that after people got married (only when married) babies somehow developed in the mothers stomach. Because of this I was always confused why some people could have kids and some couldn't, but didn't really bother to question it.

Um, strangely, I always knew how babies came about, and I don't know "how" I knew it either. I just remember walking into class one day in kindergarten and boom, the revelation hit me. I wasn't even pondering on the matter!

But my INTJ cousin has a much cuter recollection than mine! She asked her mother the question and her mother responded hesitantly, "Well, if you eat an apple, celery, and carrots together, a baby will start to grow." So for the longest time, she dared not eat those comestibles together!

I saw the Opening Credits of look who's talking when I was really young, and just kind of understood it. Before that I didn't really care enough to wonder

I didn't believe anything special either. I knew it took a male and female, and I had a vague understanding that there had to be some contact. Around age 7-8 I had made a connection about the mechanics of it, but it wasn't too big a deal. Just a slow bits of information and occasional sparks. I'm partially writing in almost electrician lingo because it is only recently that I realized why in one of my favorite movies when I was little, Robots, one bathroom door had a plug on it and the other an electrical socket

I think I always knew by the time I was able to actually ask the question it probably had to do something with involved with kissing and touching a 'girl' ect, just didn't know the 'details' at that time. I never asked the question though I remember that much.

I do however, remember being very very young (6-10yo) and asking my parents and preacher if God didn't have a mother how was he ever born ect things they felt even more uncomfortable answering because I would keep questioning and insisting he needed a mom to 'be' and so did she and so on.

I thought that babies just magically appeared in a mother's womb after the parents got married. I thought it was caused by the wedding ring.

...I was an interesting child.

I thought men and women kissed and the woman just got pregnant. I was so scared to kiss anyone...That's because I would watch movies with my parents and they wouldn't show the sex scenes, just the man and woman making out and then,..fast forward, they're having a baby. This is why censorship is a BAD THING

My mother told me babies came out of your tummy, so I thought they came out of the bellybutton. I tried to imagine how a baby could come out of there, so I imagined the bellybutton would open and then the baby would come out of it.

I was able to intuit at a very young age that babies came from the vagina and that the penis had something to do with it. Looks Who's Talking (1989) taught me about conception somewhat. That there's a round egg somewhere in a woman and that it is attacked by a freaky looking tadpole at some point.

I discovered my clitoris and subsequently masturbation when I was seven or so. I became frightened that I had perhaps done something that could trigger pregnancy. Yes, I thought I had impregnated myself.

I found out from a friend in grade five that penises can "shoot" white stuff (their older sister gotten a hold of some pornography) and I found this pretty terrifying.

I kind of feel bad reading everyone's posts here. You were all so much more innocent lol.

Lol I kind of just knew. Pretty much from movies (not movies that were inappropriate) just that obviously from birth scenes even though they didn't show any detail I obviously realised were it was coming from and although I didn't know the details of sex I did realise that the forming of babies had something to do with it, like asif if its not sex its something else you do in a private situation with someone or its something you do meanwhile having sex but yeah I just kinda knew lol

I don't recall being told the birds and bees story. I think I instinctively knew.

I do remember being laughed by my nephew and brother for not knowing the 'birds' and 'bees' story. That particular memory still stings because they could have easily told me it was related to sex, to which I would have replied: "Oh, I knew that already".

But they teased me despite my request for enlightenment... assholes.

I don't think I really thought about it. When I was five my aunt had a baby and as far as I remember I understood that she "produced" the child herself somehow.

Actually, I just remembered something my dad told me. Apologies in advance if this is weird. He said I remembered being born for years and was able to describe it as a child once I learned the words. I'll spare you the details... But maybe that's how I knew about babies?

Well, that's pretty cool. Do you currently have a really good memory about other events?

At this point I only really have very hazy memories of a few early events. There is one thing I remembered for quite a while.

I was a toddler alone in my room in my crib with a bottle of milk. I remembered how good it was, and then I ran out. I was upset so I ripped the rubber top off and threw it. I'm still not sure how I thought that would help.

Anyway, when I was about 10 or so my mom brought up the fact that I always tore the rubber tops off my bottles when I was younger. I recalled that night very vividly and explained what I was thinking.

I'm the second of nine children, so my mom was pregnant a lot of the time. Before I thought that a woman could get pregnant without a man, so I guess she just willed the baby into existence. When I played with my dollhouse when I was little, it would start with two dolls getting married. Later on, the man would get down on his knees and ask his wife if she wanted to have a baby. She would say less, and the two would kiss, and so a baby was created with the power of true love.
