According to me a good teacher is the one who teaches manners for the children, etiquette that is not taught at home and gives the character building education.

I agree that character building is important to assist students in reaching their highest potential.

However, different cultures have different views on what is appropriate manners and etiquette. In the multicultural country that I live in, I don't think teachers should be imposing their ideas of 'manners' and 'etiquette' on their students. Instead, we should teach students to respect and value each other's differences.

I agree with what you have said. In short the teachers should teach the students how to be good human beings apart from teaching them the subject.

A good teacher keeps religion and politics outside the class-room. I come from a generation when many teachers were busy indoctrinating the students with the socialist ideals. A couple of teachers would use the class as their congregation and preach.

A very good description of the best teachers I've had in my life!

Yes, this is part of my story too. But I think this was a reaction to previously held beliefs and it needed to happen so that now we can be more appreciative of the many different peoples we share our lives with.

J.F.K = assassinated
Martin Luthor King Jr. = assassinated
(freedom movement activists) = shot, beaten, burned on crosses, jailed
Hippies = shot, beaten, jailed (overdosed/assassinated?)

My greatest teacher was the "establishment" who taught me to fear "doing the right thing."
Today, those of us who believed the "establishment" was wrong are ourselves "the establishment". I've decided I am going to take my chances and try to get the "establishment" to "do the right thing."
