I wanted to do animation until (I knew there was going to be no jobs in it, not where Iive anyway and) most animation is 3D nowdays whereas I wanted to do 2D. And I suck at maths, and 3D animation involves a lot of that for the polygons and rigging models etc...
I love 2D too and still want to do more of it. There are jobs for it but not as big as Disney feature films. And for a 3D animator math is not involved, rigging and modeling are different jobs.

I don't think MBTI is really debunked either. But I do think that using a self reporting test to influence a company's hiring's decisions is foolish, especially when a large majority of applicants don't know about the background of MBTI's history and its long list of accuracy issues. It gets even worse when you test people that are unaware of psychology / personality stuff, MBTI in general, etc. And feel pressured to answer the test based on what they think may put them into a good position to be hired. Or outright lie about their type and use superficial understandings of MBTI to fake their way through the hiring process. It gets even worse whether or not you can assume the results are accurate, and then assume how their performance may or may not pan out based on a 4 letter acronym.
And the dichotomies are not really. Most people cluster near the middle of at least one or two of the four.

This feedback is great. INFPs are a great bunch. It is nice to focus on our strengths and understand how we are perceived by others. Thanks everyone for sharing.

This isn't meant to be insulting, but why would a business hire an INFP? It seems like other personalities fill roles much better than INFPs do.

I don't have problems getting work. During interviews I can't really focus on my INFP strong points too much. Perhaps it is just the jobs that are hiring, but I never really found a job that I am truly myself.

I have yet to see a job description that closely fits INFP traits. From what I can tell if you hire an INFP for a position that they are passionate about, they can't be stopped. They may even work for less and harder simply to do what they feel is right. For example: I would hire an INFP that has a passion for music as an creative partner for a music studio start-up. This is a very atypical business and scenario that just doesn't happen a whole lot. It seems like positions that are carved out for INFPs are so rare. It's a little discouraging.
I think the main problem is that the INFP doesn't do things he finds that there is no meaning or not in sync with true self, not that INFP can't do the work because those are two different things. Personality typing is not about aptitude.

So INFP can be very good at any kind of work but because he chooses to not do certain things, that's why the type is more commonly associated with "jobless" but picky is the right word really... so I think employers are often surprised they become no. 1 in their jobs when they're hired when they seem laid back on the surface, it's because they can be very skillful but not bothering to do anything about it or 'expressing' it because most jobs nowadays are kind of......to put it bluntly, kind of uninteresting and devoid of fucking any purpose and filled with pretentious people, etc. (sorry for the mild rant)

bottomline is, I think a fair amount of INFPs can do just about any job and maybe exceeds expectations but doesn't really want to because our core values is much important and because we are more idealistic than the average, this kind of leaks in looking for the ideal profession. but we definitely we can fake it like the others in order to make it (and kick their fucking butts out of the way!)

Knowing that you are INFP is not an indication of your weaknesses but rather your strengths. Your life is devoted to discovering what you are good at and your type is a map to your strengths. You must play to your strengths. You will shine as a result. Don't lose patience. Just navigate your way towards what you excel at and not what the rest of the world wants you to do. If your innate abilities and tendencies come into play on the job you're doing, then you will shine and success will follow.

Introversion makes you perfect for jobs requiring long hours of quiet concentration. I work in Engineering and the greater percentage of people doing work around me are introverts. We create design drawings for construction. We create spreadsheets compiling data from various sources and we consolidate that information into new forms. if we have to do that many times over, we write vba code to make the tasks faster and more accurate. INFP is an ideal person to automate tasks by devising creative solutions to these processes.

Intuition is the juice that makes us very good at quickly learning and performing design tasks. I never went to Engineering school yet I can quickly master the skills required to not only perform tasks but perform them more quickly than many i work with. Intuitive types are rare in Engineering and so we fill needs nobody realized would be important. My company gets paid to be fast and accurate in creating the necessary documentation that directs and coordinates large projects.

INFPs complete entire tasks all at once because along the way towards completion, we are doing all the surrounding tasks at the same time we are completing the immediate work.

People are amazed by what we can accomplish when given an entire project to work out ourselves.

The management at companies are geared towards encouraging people towards the jobs that are hardest to fill. So of course whatever they are offering won't work for you or anybody else. The job of finding personally rewarding work lies with each employee and not the management. They just want to get things the things done that are being perpetually overlooked.

This. I totally agree :D

I tend to switch jobs when it doesn't align with my core values. And my bosses are usually caught off-guard when I quit because as far as they're concerned, I'm doing an excellent job. But personally, I know that I could do more without draining myself internally, if only I actually believe in what I'm doing.
