I think there have been similar discussions on this before; I hope you will all forgive me for starting up a new one. I am realizing some things about my Inferior function (Se), which seem to be in line with what some other people have said about inferior functions.

Sometimes, Se overwhelms me. I'll just have this sudden urge to break out and "live large," immerse myself in the moment. When I give in to this urge, temporarily all of my other functions retreat. I engage in behavior which, if those who know me well were watching, they might say "She's really not acting herself right now." Se is not something that I can easily control in these moments; rather it takes on a life of its own. Fortunately, the moments never last too long.

I can't often predict when this will happen; rather it seems to come upon me unawares at time. And when I do try to purposely seek it out, it often evades me. Lucky are the rare times when the physical urge and the mental desire happen simultaneously.

How does your inferior function operate? Is it as evasive and unpredictable as mine seems to be? Hoping for responses from a variety of different types here...Don't disappoint!

As a primary Ti, when my Fe flares up, I generally do and say uncharacteristic things. Sometimes, this is fun, like yelling at the Eagles on the TV, which I normally abhor. When I was younger, I would make all sorts of ridiculous decisions based on... the... er... feelings and emotions surrounding sexuality. I always felt like some other me would make the decision, leaving me with the baggage afterward. It seems that the primary and shadow functions can't occupy the same psychological territory at the same time. I'm beginning to suspect that they can if you don't think about them and just let each be, which entails not dwelling or feeding energy into the primary function while at the same time stop actively resisting the shadow.

Vocalist, I am guessing that it is almost possible for someone to sneak up on you from the front too, no? That's been my observation of an Se-inferior person I know. And I thought I was bad at paying attention to my surroundings.

Extroverted feeling has tended to be all-or-nothing to me. There have been times when I took other people's feelings as my own as an FJ might. Emotions are experienced intensely and may be expressed intensely, although there are social rules about that which I try (and sometimes fail) to abide by.
