What nightmares have you had that you remember?
I'm not talking about nightmares as in events that occour in life that we hate but the actual scary dream.

One night recently I was sleeping but I woke up and looked around my room and it felt really ominous. I could experience that there was something behind the window. I wanted to get up and run to my door but the "thing" was behind there too. So I closed my eyes and tried to got back to sleep but I couldn't and when I opened them the "thing" had taken form as an extremely dark apparition standing right by my bedside. At that moment I actually awoke then after calming down I went back to sleep. I woke up shortly after though and while looking around my room I began hearing whisperings, quiet at first but soon reaching the magnitude of a jet engine. There were so many whispering and they were all around me. Then I finally woke up, or at least I think I did...

Also I've been having this chronic thought of something twisted and metallic digging into my lower spine.

So what are your nightmares?

I remember a nightmare about a giant teddy bear sitting in the upstairs room where I was. I tried calling for help but my mom was changing my brother's clothing downstairs. It may be symbolic of my lack of attention in early life.
I also remember reading about the moon, Titan, possibly being able to sustain life then felt like aliens were gonna walk up to me and capture me, I ran back to bed after learning this from a Wikipedia article. Childhood was much more exciting, how often do you become frightened of Wikipedia these days?
Which is another type of nightmare I get, I have a fear of alien abductors standing over my bed, sometimes ghosts as well.

So, Teddy Ruxpin used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. I once had a nightmare many years ago that I was in our house and came downstairs wearing a frilly blue dress with lace on the ends (it was the 80s). There was a table filled with fancy food and we had a fireplace. On top of the fireplace was Teddy Ruxpin.

He sat there and slowly his eyes blinked and his mouth opened and closed as he told a story. There was a weird sound coming from him and I realized that he was a bomb. Then we blew up.

Otherwise, I used to have a recurring dream of being on a train that would overturn into a special tunnel that led to where the homeless people lived. The vast majority of my dreams are beyond ludicrous and even when they are supposed to be nightmares, I'm too into the scenery or the oddness of what's going on that I can't bother being afraid.

Most of my dreams are distressing on some level, but not all of them make it to nightmare status.

I had one where a large dragon (Deathwing?) was chasing me through a forest. It wasn't the dying that scared me (I've doed before and not cared), but the sense that I had to keep running or I'll get caught. There is no time to think, only to act, but I am still only delaying the inevitable.

Or, there was one where I found a secret room in my grandmother's house. There were several children in there, and we had to hide or he would find us. I can remember waiting, terrified that someone would lose their resolve and/or start crying, or that he would notice the "missing" space on the house.

There were also nightmares that had to do with a bad "relationship" I had with someone, but I'd rather not go into that.

Other than being eaten by lions, tigers and spiders...

I have had one such 'nightmare' after a two a and half day binge watching FMA & FMA: Brotherhood.

As such, a normal night is me in my pitch black room, I was laying on my bed and suddenly the 'Eye of God' appeared on the ceiling. In a daze, I reached out towards it only to be met with shadow tendrils and pulled slowly upwards into the eye. Once through the other side, I saw my gate of truth, which puzzled me as the gate was unreadable. Purple eyes greeted me from the abyss as the gate creaked opened and I still felt nothing. I continued to glide into the darkness where I was enveloped; Immediately, the tendrils ripped at my 'body' too quickly for me to register the pain and then I was gone...

Or so I thought. The gate opened again with a blinding light and I saw my body from an out of person perspective. The few scars I have were gone and my physique was as I imagined if I actually worked out again presently. Except for the eyes. The eyes were the same as 'Truth's'. As for myself, I could not feel anything physically or emotionally. But as I saw shadow tendrils reaching out for it 'Truth' grinned and the tendrils stopped. I could once again feel; only akin to a shiver of uncertainty(?) as the doors began to close once more.

With me on the other side.

I've had nightmares about ominous presences/dark apparitions in my room, like I either saw or sensed the figures in my room. I had them a few times over a couple of months but haven't had them in a while. It was creepy as hell though. I've also had a few disturbing dreams that I was watching someone being tortured and mutilated, like someone being boiled alive or someone that was dissected while they were still alive. Some other memorable nightmares of mine:

-Being stuck working in some customer service job(yes I actually consider those to be nightmares).
-Dinosaurs or zombies attacking everyone.
-Someone trying to break into my house. Then I try to hide but the burglar can still see me and/or I try to call 911 and my phone doesn't work or the operator can't hear me.
-Being stuck in the ocean, with or without sharks(I have a fear of water so it's scary even without the sharks).
-Spiders. In my nightmares about them they chase me and try to crawl all over me. I wake up from those nightmares practically shaking; I can't stand spiders!
-Seeing something scary, and when I closed my eyes I could still see it. Even if I closed my eyes tight and covered them with my hands I could still see what was happening. And if I tried to cover my ears I could still hear what I was afraid of hearing too. There was no escape!

I often wake up in a cold sweat due to a recurring nightmare where they reboot the 80's TV series ALF. It's terrible... they start with a movie release, which gets spun off into a new series. Charlie Sheen is in both. I can't even talk about it any more, it's just too traumatic.

My nightmares are usually pretty abstract (and one of the most consistent things in my life) which usually just evoke the negative spectrum of my emotions. When I do actually dream something concrete it varies from watching as people who I care about are getting tortured and/or killed, through all the "dark thingy chasing you" type of dreams to any scenario taken from a really obscure horror movie.

Personally I hate the abstract ones the most because the night feels like an eternity with me waking up and getting back to sleep in a pretty delirious state.

I do have the cliche 'you have a class you totally forgot about and suddenly remember it exists, didn't go all year, and you're flunking'. Of course, to be fair, I've kind of LIVED that. No, didn't blow off a class all year, but since we moved around all the time, I've been stuck into a class in the middle of the year and had to kind of figure out what I was supposed to be doing, often when the classes I left were in a whole different place, academically. (Went from south to north, from division to geometry once... 5th grade, and I swear, the beginning of my math trauma.)

The other one isn't quite 'naked in public', more a variation....finding myself having to change clothes in a place that leaves me with the risk of being walked in on. Ugh...not a fun dream. But can't be the simple monsters chasing me or something. Never had a dream quite that easy to explain.

I rarely have any dreams. The most I abruptly wake from are falling dreams - those ended by reflexive jerk of leg.

Sometimes I have some kind of strange dream or exploring some strangely half-familiar place like basement or ancient attic in process of which surrounding turn quite hostile, sometimes mythically/mystically so. In this I usually turn in lurker in shadows, jumper over roofs/trees (not necessarily in human form) avoiding the world around me turning mad, watching it from afar, yet not entirely safe.

Somehow I see the symbolism of introverted thinker in that.

I don't get nightmares anymore. I do however have a dream of me doing some random thing, when a wave of anxiety floods over me. Then after I wake up, I'll forget it.

But then after awhile I will get Déjà vu. And I'll be in the same place as I was in the dream, but no anxiety.

The closest I come to nightmares are two recurring dreams which are variations of the same thing:

1) I'm still in high school and they refuse to acknowledge I was done with this 30 years ago

2) I'm still in The Marines and they refuse to acknowledge I was done with this 25 years ago

I haven't had one in a few years but they occurred often enough for me to take note of them. Something about an aversion to being controlled I imagine...the relief I felt upon awakening was intense.

I'm sure you had to change the sheets afterwards. But seriously, how did you survive a 5 year stint in the Marines, without wanting to claw off people's (namely superiors) heads in the 80's is my greatest guess right now.

My MOS helped. Legal services specialist...I worked with the lawyers. Still, it didn't end well.

These are the yellow footprints you stand in after getting off the bus for recruit training:

Yellow Asphalt Leaf Road surface

The SJA, a full-bird colonel I worked for, had two yellow circles on the carpet directly in front of his desk. Anyone looking curiously at these circles after entering his office would get the explanation, 'That's where you put your knees.' He was a fun guy.
