The Netherlands is a relative safe country, no need to worry about.

Amsterdam is a bit crowded though, hehe, but maybe you'll like that.

My secret dream is to travel the Nordic countries alone. I just need to get over the fear and start saving up.

I love solo travelling. It's an unforgettable experience. I will never forget that 3 days in Barcelona. First day: I explored the city center and local museums, markets, religious places. Second day: I rented a scooter on vesping.com and explored Badalona quite beach. Third day: it was very fun as I met a few locals and they showed me some great places with delicious food. It was a fantastic trip.

I'm planning to go to Amsterdam in august for three nights alone. Gonna stay in a hostel. Should be fun. It would be my first solo travel.
I just came back from traveling alone for the first time. Worst experience for me was being stranded at an airport because my connecting flight was cancelled even after boarding the plane and waiting for 2 hours (...yes). I then had to wait 2 hours to reschedule and instead of flying directly there as planned turned out I had to fly to SFO from LAX because the only available flight was the next night from SFO. Fun times. Total travel time accumulated to 3-4 days.

With that said, I'll travel alone again. When I was in Singapore I wandered the city by myself and yes at first I felt a bit detached and disconnected from everyone and everything, but that's fine. Or when I was flying to Japan for the first time a Japanese flight attendant greeted me with a low bow, that was memorable. There were good times and bad times but that's life. You also have more time for self-reflection when you're traveling alone.

Here's some things to consider that could be helpful:

    1. Travel costs

Public transport, taxi, or uber (or in some countries, grab). Have google maps ready. Public transport is cheaper and if you take the bus or train, familiarize yourself with the bus or train system map and purchase a transportation card. In some countries, public transport etiquette is different as well. For example in Japan and Singapore you should not eat or drink, escalators are divided into left and right because the right side is for people in a rush, etc.

    2. Food & accommodation costs, currency exchange

If you're traveling internationally it's convenient to have cash ready. Some countries are more cash-based.

    3. Have things to do lined up

Bars, museums, tours, attractions, etc. Research online (such as tripadvisor.com) for suggestions.

Hope you have a good time!

I've travelled across Canada and the US extensively but usually with someone.

I've travelled abroad but they have been solo trips. I realized that if I waited for people to come with me I'd never go! Depending on how long you go, I went for 7 months the first time, you can have moments of loneliness but otherwise it was the best decision I've ever made!

Yeah it was pretty awesome in Amsterdam. I'm planning to go to Japan for a week in May as solo trip.

With others you must plan/be considerate of other schedules/etc. Solo you are on your own time. It is great.

Yes. I've been to ~10 countries alone. My first solo trip was in Southeast Asia back in 2016 (age 23). I stayed in hostels via hostelworld and dabbled with Couchsurfer. This was right before the AirBnB market became as mainstream as it is today. Hostels are rather cheap in SE Asia, so I was able to get a good deal on a single room. I mostly stayed in hostels operated by a family or a couple.
