When I visited the US by myself when I was 21, the best part of it was how I could explore things with open eyes, freely. I could make snap decisions to change what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go. It changes the quality of being in a place where it's not simply about navigating to a destination but being open to having one's attention redirected suddenly.
It's a lot more spontaneous and gives you different opportunities than a more organized exploration of a place.

Now have a car and you can go anywhere. That's the premise of my blog.

You're in luck as I am from Greece.

Crete is a much bigger island, and you've more to explore. Not sure you can do it in a week. However, if you want to rent a car and travel around the main roads are mostly decent, so I'd recommend it over Zante.

Zante (Zakynthos) is much smaller and the roads are not great, so if you want to freely explore on your own, it might be more difficult to do. The island itself is beautiful, and the beaches fantastic, so if you just want to relax for a few days and experience the local culture, it's a great choice.

Solo traveling in Europe is not dangerous much. I've never gone solo traveling before but doing so through Europe, and Amsterdam specifically seems entirely possible. I have stayed in a few hostels in Europe; Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands specifically and it was a very nice experience. Meeting people staying at hostels is also a good chance to share notes to give and receive recommendations on places to visit. Since most people staying in a hostel are likely traveling on a budget, you're likely to receive free or inexpensive recommendations to visit.

I would say give it a shot. Although traveling with a partner, friend(s) or family is a much better experience, imo.

Hm, I guess if you want to keep to yourself, you could try following the Lonely Planet guide to Amsterdam:
