Has anyone been to Morocco, or live there? Marrakesh, Morocco, is one of the places I really want to visit. I love Moroccan cuisine, textiles, lamps/lanterns, tea sets, etc... I'd love to explore the local markets, food, architecture, & culture.

However, I'm not sure how safe it would be to travel there as a woman, I will have to use precaution. I've been to other countries where harassment of women is common, but I don't know if it would escalate beyond verbal harassment. I don't know if it would be advisable to wear a head covering, or not?

This is an article I found for women travelers: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/morocco/women-travellers

Are there any other cities you suggest visiting, in Morocco?

Edit: I wonder if I have any Moroccan blood in me, because I'm fascinated by the whole culture, it's beautifully mesmerizing. I can't wait to go, one day!

I have no clue. For a while I was really interested in hiking the Atlas Mountains...

I know this doesn't help. Just wanted to share.

I've asked my Muslim friends, out of all of the Muslim countries, which place they would recommend as the hopping off point for me to visit, and they say Morocco. I have not been there but would also love to go. I also worry, as a white woman, about the sexual harassment that is apparently rampant there. But Morocco has a stable government comparatively and the Muslim/Jewish/Christian communities get along which you don't find in many other places. It's a good place to go to get a sense of what Islamic countries are like.

Yes, it's near the top of my to-do travel list as well (if only I had endless amounts of money....!)
Be sure to ride a camel while you are there :)
I'm assuming you've done your research but you probably know that you can't go to Morocco on your own, you need a tour guide. You can't go through the cities without one. So that will help keep you safe.
Also there's no need for head coverings, etc. Morocco is more liberal of a country. Dress with respect and you'll be good. The only place you'll need to cover your head is in mosques.
