    Tokyo

I'm planning to go to Tokyo, Japan for one week from the 24th of May to the 1st June this year. I've booked a flight for it already.

I'm looking forward to it. It's gonna be awesome.

Has anyone visited Tokyo and how did they find it? I know they are a few users on here who live in Tokyo.

are you going alone? there's tons of stuff on my to-do list. like check out a cat cafe and play with all the kitties

it's a shame you've only got a week. there's other cities that are on my must-see list as well like kyoto and osaka

Yeah I'm travelling alone should be really. I'm planning to stay in a hotel in shinjuku. I've heard shinjuku and shibuya are nice places to stay for a first visit. Yeah I wanted to go for ten days but not sure if I can afford it for two weeks staying in a hotel. I heard Asakusa and Ueno are quite cheap to stay.

Haha your display pic is hurting my eyes a little

have you ever looked into couchsurfing?

you might be able to find people to stay with on that site, or if you're not quite comfortable- people to show you around.

I've looked into it but I might just look at a hotel or hostel. My first going there I'm not sure how safe couchsurfing is.

I'm planning a long trip to the ol' rising sun land so I've been looking into places a lot, from what I've seen loads of the best places to visit in Tokyo are in Shibuya, Shinjuku and Chiyoda, and they're all right next to each other so you'll probably want to make that area the main hub for your trip. Chiyoda and Shinjuku have all the best hotels in the city too.

You might want to stay away from Roppongi though. It's one of the main hubs for tourists which attracts a lot of English-speaking establishments that make great tourist traps, but for that same reason there are a LOT of con artists and shady shops and clubs there that try to take advantage of foreigners. It could be exaggerated but still be careful if you go there. That aside though Roppongi is still very tourist-y which may or may not be your thing.

Nice I've pre-booked a hotel in Shinjuku. I might check out Kabukicho where the Yakuza games are based. When are you planning to go to Japan and for how long?

Sounds like I need to get round to playing them properly before I go then, that sounds like it'd be an awesome place to visit. I'm aiming tentatively for about 2 or 3 years from now so me and my friends have time to save, it'll be for 3 weeks. Gonna spend a week in Tokyo then 2 weeks travelling around the country seeing as much as possible.
