Course it's not dead. General rule of thumb is that if a genre lives longer than a decade, it's not going to die away. D&B is probably in it's best era it's ever been at the moment as it's much more diverse now.

Rupture LDN is becoming a big event/record label with their proper true-to-the-craft jungle but often with some more modern influences. The fact they're making music videos now is a sign. Foundation X, Fresh 86 and AKO deserve a shout as well for the same reasons. As usual, Paradox music is still about with new releases basically every month.

Another one of my favourites at the minute is the Exit Records sister-label Pleasure District. Even though it's most of it's tracks are created by D&B artists and is most definitely a subgenre of D&B, I'm not sure if I actually consider it to be D&B myself. For me, D&B's trademark sound is fast breaks, and no Pleasure District release has that. It's definitely quality, forward thinking music though. Got to love dBridge's trademark 'coldening soul' style. Zerone is definitely my favourite tune of 2016 so far.

The soulful liquid-funk vibes are still pressing on strong with artists like Calibre, Random Movement, Satl, Malaky, Roygreene & Protone and a ton of others still on it. Record labels like Fokuz Recordings, Soul:r, Horizons Music, Spearhead, Innerground and numerous others still got it going on.

Then you have Metalheadz, which will never ever ever EVER stop.

    Zerone definitely isn't D&B...

But it is a certain sound, there are a few undercurrent artists pushing this sort of sound (well I think so anyway). Reminds me (and I've no doubt this is an influence of people making music of this style) of the downtempo tune Comaduster - To Hide To Seek

Dunno, drum & bass is about broken beats (sometimes 4x4) at 160 - 180 bpm (roughly), with heavy bassweight. No one said those beats can't be in half-time. Like when Loefah went half-time at a time when dubstep was still steppy. I get the use of genres, but usually they refer to a very loose set of sounds that are adopted by a particular sub culture. I.e. thrashcore is punk and not metal because punk fans listen to it, etc. Same with the Autonomic sound in dnb; dnb fans listen to it, therefore it's dnb.

Not even just the Autonomic stuff but half-time in general:

Listen to as much Synkro/Instra:Mental/J Kenzo/Djrum/Indigo/Kid Drama/Bop/Sam KDC chronologically. You'll see the evolution. It is D&B; it's just a far cry from what the typical D&B sound is. Though the name 'Autonomic' is getting tossed about more and more for this kind of sound. Most people mix 'Autonomic' with what is known as typical D&B anyway. With time, it may break away entirely into it's own genre, but until we have artists dedicated to Autonomic exclusively away from typical D&B, it's still just another flavour in D&B. It may even never happen.

The great thing about DnB is that you think you've heard it all, then you stumble across something like this randomly...
