    It's gay

There is nothing wrong with guys horsing around sometimes.

There were two soccer players on my floor in college that used to cuddle shirtless side by side on the couch all the time while watching TV in the common area. Typically they would be wearing only sweat pants or gym shorts. They claimed to be straight and would say stuff like "it's not gay it's just dude love" and people would just laugh it off. They also weren't the only guys I knew who did stuff like that, though nobody else took it quite as far as they did. I think they got away with it because they were both like the textbook extrovert dude bro jock stereotype and both were very interested in girls. Both of them are married to women today. They had like the ultimate bromance though. Were they bisexual in the closet or in denial? Who knows? One thing I do know is that actual gay guys, especially when closeted, are often too insecure to act that way in mixed company.

Dunno if anyone has already said this, but homoromanticism, biromanticism, and panromanticism are things. Agreed that it's totally fine to be straight and do this, by all means, but it's also quite possible that there are a good number of men who do enjoy and seek out romantic relationships with the same gender without wanting sexual relationships with them. They may not even realize that's what they're doing because mainline education/society rarely discusses less prevalent orientations, and as far as I am aware there is very little research done into what percent of the population may have "split" orientations.

Also it's frustrating to have a study where we can't see how the pool was selected without paying upwards of 30 dollars. I really question the figure that 98% of heterosexual men reported having kissed a male friend on the lips. It just doesn't seem likely. Maybe 98% of men who self-reported having a bromance, maybe. That figure really still strikes me as unbelievably high.

I definitely think you might be onto something here. Bromance is a very real thing and not everyone who enjoys bromance is gay or bi or in denial. Unfortunately we live in a society that says that if two dudes share any physical intimacy at all they must be a gay couple but why does that have to be the case?

For example, I personally find two dudes hanging out together wearing gym shorts and no shirts, drinking beer, watching football or an action movie with their arms around each others necks to be a very masculine thing.

This is not going to be my highest quality post, but its not lost on me that the outlet that reported this is called "Metro News". Anyway I couldn't care less what two consenting adults, neither of which is me, choose to do with their bodies and free time.
