This is a discussion on Do 4's mistype as 6's and do 6's mistype as 4's within the Type 4 Forum - The Individualist forums, part of the Heart Triad - Types 2,3,4 category; I've taken the tests and sometimes get 4 and 6 equally. Apparently I'm both. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE....

that's exciting. you are a 9? sweet. What's your tri-type things? And do you believe a 4 could have a tri type 6 and the other way around as well?

I test as all kinds of things not related to my core type. I've typed as both 4 and 6 at different times in the distant past...I am neither.

As a rule of thumb, the Fauvres say that if you have ever tested as a 6, you're probably a 6. You'll want to introspect on the matter, though. How do you relate to both 4 and 6?

A lot of the tests are pretty stupid. It also depends on how you interpret the questions, which can be influenced by any number of factors (mood, language, culture, current self-image, I dunno). So makes more sense to read about the types in depth and see which one you relate to most. I always test as 4 or 5.

If I got a Seven or Eight result, I would know the test was totally broken -- but other than that I can see how I might possibly get any other incorrect result based on whatever reason. So yeah.

I will say I sometimes go through a weird phase or mini type-crisis where I start thinking I'm a Six. (I also think I'm a Five or a Nine sometimes, or a One-fix if not a One primary. ...Worst crises are when I worry I'm an INTJ)

    That doesn't last long, though.

My friend who doesn't understand Enneagram very well will often confuse the two types, due to stereotypes about overreacting and freaking out, haha

Not surprising, but kind of weird. Don't see why people can't mistype at 6 like other types.

No idea, just a rule of thumb. Anyway they were referring to taking official tests, not necessarily typing oneself after reading descriptions.
