Here are a few of my Saint Bernard, Dotti. I got her in Jan. 2010, when she was a year old. She needed to be rehomed as her owner could no longer afford to keep her. Dotti is the best. She really is a gentle giant with a big heart. :proud:

@snowangel, that dog is insanely cute!

This is our dog, Rasputin:

He came from an ex-boyfriend's mother.

The first cat is Mrs. Bates, whom I rescued as an abused stray from a rural Dairy Queen. She's shy due to her past of abuse. The second is Joey, the former cat of another ex-boyfriend's elderly grandparents. He is thought to be part Maine **** and is super affectionate with everyone and lets you cuddle him like a baby. And the third is Bunny, re-adopted from Animal Control after her first adoptive owners "moved" and didn't bring her with:p Bunny is the most dominant and replaced Mrs. Bates in sleeping on me every night.

I love Shih Tzus, but unfortunately they have to be groomed constantly:p My mother now mainly takes care of the dog. I also love Yorkshire Terriers. I don't know how often they require grooming compared to Shih Tzus... I love all dogs, but I like some of the smaller dogs that have longer life spans and are easier to carry if there's a problem, for purely practical purposes.

Pet Story

I wanted to share a story about my Saint Bernard, Dotti. She truly is a survivor. Last summer we had a house fire. I woke up in the middle of the night after I heard my stepson screaming for me to get up and that our house was on fire. Once I got up and realized what was happening we got everyone out of the house quickly. I took our kids to the neighbors. I am so glad that those neighbors heard us knocking at their door and that they helped out with our kids. I then went back to look for my dog. I knew I couldn't get back into the house so I went to the two entrances where I thought she would be and I couldn't find her. My husband was panicking and he keep telling me to get away from the house. I told him that I was going to find my dog and no one was going to stop me. I just knew my dog was still alive. I had a cat and kitten inside but I did not see them when I was exiting the house. I left the door open hoping they would run out. They never made it out.

My dog had been sleeping in a back room where it was cooler and it was her favorite spot so I had some idea of where she could be. I keep calling her and I went to a back door but I couldn't get it opened. So I left to go around to another entrance when I heard finally heard her. She had just enough energy left to yelp, and it was the most horrible yelp I have ever heard. She had collapsed behind the door I was trying to get open and she couldn't get up. I knew I had to try to get her out. My husband in the meantime was blowing our car horn to get help. It was 2:00 a.m. so no one in the area was up. An off-duty fireman had just got off duty and when he got to his house he heard the
car horn and some yelling. He went to go see what was going on when he seen our house was on fire. He ran over and my husband took him to the back where I was and he was able to move my dog enough to get that door open and get her out. He then told me to get out of the backyard right away. He left with my dog and as soon as I got around to the front of the house a huge flame shot through that back door where we had been. It torched everything in it's path.

I am so grateful that my husband blew that horn and got the attention of that off-duty fireman. My dog survived. I am not even sure how she did. That area she was in was so hot and there was so much smoke. She had to be treated for smoke inhalation. And after a few weeks she was back to herself again. She really is a special part of our family. The photo below of her was taken two weeks after the fire. Dotti had to stay in a temporary home after the fire until we could find a place to rent. That was a great day when I was able to get my dog and take her home with us.
