I arrived at this question during my research on Twos in which I found that they really didn't seem to have a strong opinion of Fives one way or the other. I have read that Twos often gravitate toward Eights and Fours because of their strong sense of self/individuality and that Sixes sometimes gravitate to Nines because of their relatively laid back nature.

Which Enneagram types are attracted to Fives and why?

Please note that I am mostly interested in anecdotal rather than empirical evidence as I'd like to hear possible reasons why and because in all likelihood I have already seen the data. Personal experiences are encouraged though speculation is welcome.
ROFL! What a spectacular thread topic!
@n2freedom - thanks for posting all that stuff. I'm going to buy that book!

However, I need to mention that personal experience diverges from these statistics. Perhaps I'm not a good example of a textbook 5, being that I'm extroverted, SX, w4, and have a strong 8 fix. But all things being equal, I am a magnet to male 8s. No amount of pajamas, days without showering, isolation, bluntness, or shyness can keep them away. [Umm, this is not a complaint- I'm often wildly attracted to male 8s, too. :) ] I've also been relentlessly chased for years on end by 1s, 4s, 7s. I'm perpetually single, but I've received exactly 8 marriage proposals, mostly from friends and exes. [What is wrong with these people?!] Contrary to the list, I think female 5s *are* attractive to males of many types. But, like other 5s on this thread, I don't think I've ever been seriously pursued by a male 2.

Since you asked who is attracted to 5s, I will confess that *I* have a history of being wildly, ruthlessly devoted to male 5s who are partially romantically inclined towards me, but are compartmentalizers or commitment-phobes. UGH, please shoot me now before it happens again!!!! I am not convinced I have the strength to endure such torture again in this lifetime. But I am also afraid I'll never learn my lesson.

Why, you ask? WHY? Why... why.... I could (and do) write albums and novels on this topic, why, WHY would anyone be romantically inclined toward such a creature? Libido works in mysterious ways, does it not? Perhaps "the chase" is sexy? Perhaps it turns people on to want what they can't have; to lust after a mind that is lodged on another planet; to build spaceships to reach it; to admire the other stars along the way; to explore the quagmire of a wild maze and never reach the end?

My heart throbs in agony. May life grant me the serenity to continue my peaceful solitude, or the luck to be happily grounded on Earth by a healthy 8w9 in shining armor. Save me from the 5s... anything but the 5s...

I'm a female 5w4 and find usually male 4's, 5's, and 8's are attracted to me. 2's, sometimes, at first will be attracted to me. But I think I can be too intense and make them nervous so they end up shying away. I can attract 7's in social situations if I am trying to pretend to be outgoing, but they lose interest pretty quickly. 3's, I don't think would like me much at all. And 6's seem indifferent. 1's, I can't say. I can't remember any interactions with 1's.

I find that a lot of 6's seem to be drawn to me. I can think of two friends I know for sure are 6w7's off the top of my head. I've also been romantically involved with 6's in quite a few instances. My current boyfriend is a 6w5. According to the 6's in my life, they are drawn to me because they know they can trust me. They appreciate my "brutal honesty" and loyalty. My boyfriend has told me that I drew him in with my sometimes harsh honesty and it was my level-headed nature that made him stay. He's even said that he finds arguments with me to be exhilarating because I am an even match and not afraid to tell him exactly how I feel.

I got so many compliments for my eccentricity and perceptiveness, as well as my ignorant ways i doing things. Its a little bit of a shock because I'm so embarrass of it. Though, the only weakness of a 5 is our tendency to exclude people when we're intensely involve in our personal projects, and constant need to hash and rehash.
I never notice my tendency to zone out, until recently in very unpredictable moments. When people express their mild annoyance, I usually stared at them. Thinking, "I didn't do nothing."
Maybe there's attraction to the "quiet brooding" type thing. I don't have that, but I wonder how many 5's do.

We're not. Men love us. Maybe they counted low because we turned the men down. :p

Not sure how meaningful this is, but my mother is a 9 who is attracted to the 5s (as a personality type). She informed me of this after studying the enneagram with me.

So anyhoo, you guys do have appeal.

I can say that from personal experience I have a thing for 4s (and Fi, they seem to go hand in hand). I think the guy I currently kind of like is a 4 core and has a fairly strong 6 fix. I think his gut is 9, but you see this a little less than his 6 and 4. As for me, I am usually so oblivious when it comes to romantic advances that I have probably missed out 90% of them unless they dropped it in my lap

For 2s though, we are just complete opposites. I notice this very well. I just doesn't work out at all, really. I prefer 5s, 8s (as long they aren't Te doms) and some 9s are good too, with an 8 wing. I have issues with 1s. 3s I don't think I care that much about, I haven't really engaged with an obvious 3 core, average to unhealthy 6s make me too damn nervous, they're hard to be around, 7s can be fun but it seems to be kind of superficial.
