    Accuracy of Personality Tests

What is your view on accuracy of personality tests? Each time I've taken one I've gotten a different result. I've taken them on different websites and at different times. And when you get a result, people of the same type can have some qualities of that type that others of the same type do not have. One person can fit into multiple types. It also seems that situations or scenarios are not taken into account. The questions are very vague and general. What is your experience with personality typing and do you think it is valid?

I don't like these tests, because they rely on how good you know yourself. I always felt that if/when a personality test worked for me it gave the same result as I would've chosen just reading the descriptions.
If you don't have a valid self image, best case you find multiple 'good' types, or worst case you get confirmation about your false ideas about yourself.

Personality type tests are not reliable, both because they rely on self awareness (not helpful if you aren't self aware), and because they tend to focus on behavior over cognition. MBTI and especially function theory, is supose to be about cognition, not behavior, and why it can be so hard to type. This is why someone's type can tell you why someone did something (most of the time, people can go against cognition), but not what they'll do in the future.

Also, type is just one part of a person's personality, there are many other things involved with it then just type. I tend to be leary of any site with detailed, behavior specific descriptions.

I do think the theory can be helpful for self analysis, and for better getting along in well established relationships.

I do not find it useful for figuring out how others will act, or for judging people on meeting them, or in new relationships be it friend/romance/family/etc.
