    Confused? Oh, yes. My type?

Alright, I believe the more I read about MBTI and cognitive functions the more all the information becomes confused in my brain. Generally, I am not this bad when learning new things, but I think the whole self-reflection process required in determining my type is making a mess of things. It's rather hard to look yourself in the mirror on some days, right?
So, here is a list of random things that I believe describe me. It's fairly long, but I tend to be a very thorough person.

-- I am a perfectionist (over particular things of course but not necessarily over things that actually matter).
-- I am not always very personal; i.e. I feel detached from the world and people's problems at times.
-- I know I give my whole heart in defense of someone's rights, but only if that person was directly involved in my life.
-- I hate when others put me in a box, but I am prone to placing myself in a box.
-- I am on a constant search for what is the 'right' thing and what is the general truth about the world, which is ironic because I do believe in subjectivity (you define the world for yourself).

-- I will always reject things that are based on absolute rationality. I am prone to rationalize things myself, but I believe is always at least one subjective factor that can be calculated into a final decision.
-- I love observing nature, but at times I feel like my range of vision is narrow when it comes to truly observing things.
-- Everything fits into some sort of symbolic category in my mind. Things have individual meanings that can be interwoven into the meanings of other items. These symbols and meanings build up in our heads to structure our world view.
-- I indulge in weighing out the handful of possibilities behind different scenarios.
-- I enjoy being rather spontaneous around good friends and most of the time you can never get me to shut up, but otherwise I can feel rather rigid, distant, and overly serious.

-- My 'randomness' sometimes feel calculated.
-- I have a dry, quirky humor at best. I am also known for heavy sarcasm and I taste for dark humor along with childish humor.
-- I have a distaste for most people.
-- I am constantly evaluating people (or simply judging them), but I don't hold people to my evaluations. I am open to the possibility that they may do something unpredictable.
-- I need validation from others.

-- It's hard to illicit my sympathies it when comes to life's tragedies, but I will becomes easily passionate about common decency, respect for others, and people's rights.
-- I am strongly swayed by emotions (and perhaps neurotic).
-- I have a love for written language, but I am not very articulate when speaking unless I am giving a speech I feel comfortable about.
-- I am not really the first to react to things.
    -- I am highly contemplative.

-- I live in a world of possibilities.
-- I am very critical of the world around me, but I am hardest on myself.
-- Crowds put me at unease.
-- I am irritated easily, but I am getting better at this.
-- I love knowing the reasons why something happened, etc.

-- I usually learn best through visuals and hand-on experience, but I also need to know the theory behind something.
-- I like knowing the mechanisms of particular situations, objects, whatever.
-- I usually enjoy knowing the idea behind something as soon as possible.
-- I internalize just about everything, which includes beating myself up over the little things.
-- I have an external focus of control (despite my belief that I am highly autonomous).

-- I I think most people have the wrong idea.
-- I dislike offending people (unless they deserved it). And for the record, I don't usually find sarcasm offensive… usually.
-- I am a creature of habit and routine.
    -- I know what I like and I like what I know.
-- I hate being late for anything.

-- I adore structure, but I could never schedule my daily life. I plan things out, but I am not very rigid about them.
    -- I am unorganized mess.
-- I have recently developed a nasty habit of loosing things.

Now that you read that (hopefully at least), I will tell you that I am leaning towards either INFJ or INFP. Both types describe me fairly well, and I test as each one about half the time. But, I am pretty moderate with all four levels (not only with the J/P).

PS I know some of the traits I listed probably have nothing to do with type, but please just bare with me.

In case you didn't know what I did, I broke up your statements into categories and place them in their appropriate cognitive function box. Some of your statements were not that helpful to determine your type so I omitted them; other statements had several components of function reliability so I double place them on their rightful category.

From what you said so far, it seems that your two most discussed functions were Fi and Ne which makes your type highly probable to be INFP. That is my verdict

I don't like the site, but the biggest problem is I am starting to have troubles identifying what my traits are. I wish I could meet someone who knew a lot about type, have them observe me, and then tell me what they think my type is.

Also, Iconoclastic Visionary, I like the way you evaluated my list. I am now 90% convinced I am INFP. The other 10% is mainly petty doubt since I tend to be skeptical of life in general.

this. and the fact that you seem very insecure about your orientation and need some sort of reassurance/decision making in itself makes it seem highly likely that you are an INFP.

You sound a lot like me in many ways, especially those apparent J/P contradictions such as being very punctual but also a disorganized mess, or having a calculated randomness and tending towards habit and routine, but being unable to stick to a schedule. I can definitely relate to all that confusion, and I assure you it's way more characteristic of a P type than a J type. :)

I'd go for INxP in you case (definitely Introverted and Intuitive, probably Perceptive, unsure of your T/F preference). You should also take the function analysis test if you haven't already. It helped me a lot back when I was wavering between a few MB types as well.

I know this is very hard for introverts to do, but you should make your video and talk about anything that comes to mind, or if you would like I could assign a topic for you. I can usually tell from the way people talk and discuss things what their type is.

    What do you say?

I took the cognitive processes test, and I have problems with that site too. Though, if I remember correctly it told me I use Fi the most, then Ne, then Ni, then Ti, and the rest is blurry. But, it thought I was an INFP as well. Though like I said, other tests have told me I an INFJ. But if you think my traits are more P than J, then I will probably go with that.
I think I have a fairly balanced use of F/T, but I know I am more of a Feeler. My philosophy and ethics class taught me that.

I never put much weight into making a video of myself before, but I will definitely think about it now. I just have to find time/courage to make it. But if you don't give me a topic, I will probably end up rambling on about the absurdest thing or simply freezing up every thirty seconds. When I feel like I am being put on the spot, I get nervous.

I would advice against basing your type on any J/P stereotypes, and recommend trying to fix the dominant function as a way to determine the last letter instead. I'm a J, but can identify well with this characterization as well...

Makes sense to me, but clearly I am looking for any help I can get at this point. I am the edge of driving myself mad right now, which is most definitely not a good thing but it's hard to help.
But still, I would have to say I am an INFP based upon what appears to be my dominant function.
