INFP, INTP, or ENTP?

0. Is there anything that may affect the way you answer the questions? For example, a stressful time, mental illness, medications, special life circumstances? Other useful information includes sex, age, and current state of mind.

I'm 27 and I took the test a loooong time ago and got ENFP and everyone said I wasn't an ENFP and all my friends say I'm a thinker but I feel like a feeler. Idk. I was told recently that I don't really know myself. I met an ESTJ and thought INFP because I feel like the total opposite of her but at the same time eerily similar. I have been hanging out in the INFP forum and I like it there, I feel like I relate to them really well. I just don't know though I also feel like ENTP would possibly fit better? Or maybe INTP? Not sure. But! I really want to know because I want to find my dual match. And I know I get along very well with ISTJ, ESTJ, I LOVE ESFJs, ENTPs, INTPs, INFPs, INFJs, ENFJs, ISFJs--I mean I like all the types so idk. I asked a counselor to type me professionally and I scored as ENTJ which I thought was strange and totally off base she also said the tests were not statistically valid. Whatever moving on...

1. Click on this link: Flickr: Explore! Look at the random photo for about 30 seconds. Copy and paste it here, and write about your impression of it.

Gah. I thought I knew how to insert this photo but sadly I can't figure it out. So I will just tell you the photo is taken from the base of a light house in France called Phare de Gatteville at night as it stretches up to the night sky and disappears into the stars. My impression of this photo is that it reminds me of the story of the Tower of Babel which reached up to the heavens--of course at the time that story was written wasn't our perception of the universe geocentric and the heavens were very close to the planet. So I wonder how high that tower actually was or if there was a tower that inspired it at the very least and I wonder how they built that. I also wondered where this light house was and it turns out it's in Normandy and it's the third largest traditional lighthouse in the world. Cool.

2. You are with a group of people in a car, heading to a different town to see your favourite band/artist/musician. Suddenly, the car breaks down for an unknown reason in the middle of nowhere. What are your initial thoughts? What are your outward reactions?

Am I driving? I probably am, aren't I? While inwardly, I might be panicking and freaking out, heart racing with adrenaline, I fight through it to have my first thought which is to get everyone to safety and probably have to steer a shaking/fuming car off to a safe position from the road and make sure the hazard lights are on. As soon as everything is in a safe position--depending on what is actually wrong, further assessments will have to be made. Am I driving in a pinto? Will this thing blow up? Let's get everyone out of the vehicle if that is true. Okay, once we know we are safe and no one is bleeding etc., let's start fixing the car. Do I have a spare tire, wrench, and jack? If I do not have the equipment to fix this vehicle myself, I have AAA so I will call them, have them tow it to the nearest repair shop and then probably call a cab/uber to get to the concert. Problem solved. Btw, this has happened before and this is what I did.

3. You somehow make it to the concert. The driver wants to go to the afterparty that was announced (and assure you they won't drink so they can drive back later). How do you feel about this party? What do you do?

Depends on the after party. Are there drugs and/or hookers? I would rather not be there. I will call a cab and go home. But, on the other hand, if I meet a hot guy, I will probably hit on said guy and talk with him quietly in the corner about current events or his hopes, dreams, aspirations what he thinks about current problems facing his profession, make out with him a little and then leave and never call him again. Or, if I find someone who will further my career ambitions, then I would definitely stay, schmooze, get contact information. If there aren't hot guys or career contacts to be made, I really should be getting home and going to bed.

4. On the drive back, your friends are talking. A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward reaction? What do you outwardly say?

If they are an acquaintance I would probably raise my eyebrow at him/her and say nothing and try to laugh it off while inwardly rolling my eyes with annoyance try to argue with them only if it is safe to do so. Depends on the friend and it depends on the issue. I have some friends I love to argue with because that is our relationship we get together and we argue until we're blue in the face and it's hilarious and fun and wild. With those friends I would argue and argue and argue until it escalates into some sort of mental gratification having expended all of our mental resources on all the arguments that go on both sides of the issue. These friends are ENTPs. lol. Other friends, I will correct more politely or argue with more gently. I believe in letting people know where I stand though--at least my friends anyway not acquaintances necessarily.

5. What would you do if you actually saw/experienced something that clashes with your previous beliefs, experiences, and habits?

Depends on what it is. Is someone smoking while pregnant or is someone eating yogurt with a fork? Honestly, most things are none of my business even if they annoy me people have the right to do things the way they want to do them. On the other hand, if one of my friends does something that I think is really wrong or if someone is hurting someone or someone is in danger I step in and correct the situation as best as I am able. In general though, people can believe and be whatever/whoever they want.

6. What are some of your most important values? How did you come about determining them? How can they change?

My values: don't take advantage of people, protect people, help people, take care of the environment, prevent disease transmission, be a competent human being that tries to be of service to the community, accept people for who they are, be of service, value and acknowledge other people's feelings and ideas, allow everyone to contribute and to feel of service. Think before speaking (not always good at this one), accept the things you cannot change and have the courage to change the things you can (again, struggle with this one a lot), try to be true to yourself (whatever that means). Sometimes you have to do things you don't like but you have to do them anyway.

How did I come to these conclusions? Some I was born with others I developed through reading, thought and observation. I don't think they change I think the template was there from the beginning but they evolve over time and I become better at applying them in more complicated situations every day.

7. a) What about your personality most distinguishes you from everyone else? b) If you could change one thing about you personality, what would it be? Why?

What distinguishes me from everyone else: I can get into long winded monologues, randomly teach people stuff I think is interesting or exciting, I am super passionate, and I can have some pretty provocative opinions that I like to say to diffuse tension but that could, in some situations, make me very unpopular. I also am willing to sound like an idiot to divert emotional tensions or help take the heat off of other people.

If I could change one thing about myself it would be that I would really love to be like an ENTJ or ESTJ and just be able to work everyday and make a lot of money. I hate that I sometimes get sucked into ideas and side tracked into exploring questions that have no practical application which is so much fun but it annoys me when I am not getting my work done or performing as well as I know I can. I often procrastinate or do other things instead of doing what I am supposed to do all the time and the dumb thing is I know how to succeed I just don't want to do it all the time. Also, my emotions tend to take over and hit me hard with nightmares when I find myself in a meaningless and dull existence doing the same things over and over again. I am often racked with guilt about not living up to my potential and regret about not performing up to snuff. I am very sensitive to the problems with ambition and any hint of exploitation so while ideally I would do work to get promoted in a huge multinational corporation like an ENTJ or something, I seriously hate the idea of selling my soul so I often feel torn between my desire for money and my need for freedom from enslavement/oppression. I have been learning how and where I can compromise and still feel authentic and free.

8. How do you treat hunches or gut feelings? In what situations are they most often triggered?

I don't really know what this is or what it means. Does it mean like when you're drinking absinthe and you really want to do parkour? Been there, done that won't do it again. Or does it mean like when you piece things together and come to a definitive conclusion like: I think Bailey is addicted to crack so we probably shouldn't invite her to our party because she might rob us or bring crack to our party. I trust that.

9. a) What activities energize you most? b) What activities drain you most? Why?

Energizing activities: stimulating conversation, planning, arguing, learning, exploring, reading, attending lectures--anything that get my creative and analytical juices flowing.

Draining activities: sitting quietly with people talking about who died recently, eating boring food in a cramped cellar with people who aren't interested in ideas or willing to talk about anything too provocative. Anything that involves me presenting a positive image of myself to others and selling myself is tough, exhausting, and cumbersome. I definitely need to mentally prepare for these situations and that is why I would never be a salesperson.

10. What do you repress about your outward behavior or internal thought process when around others? Why

Depends on who I'm around. Around my friends I try not to repress anything. I am just myself and I like it and its fun. At work, I try to repress anything negative--try not to gossip, spread rumors, complain, or say anything mean about anyone. I always say how much I love where I work and the people I work with and try to make that perfectly clear that I am not out to get anyone and love where I work. I do this because I don't want to be fired. lol.

I thought I would speed this process along by answering more questions that might help narrow it down more.

1) What aspect of your personality made you unsure of your type?

I feel like I relate to Se-Ni and Te-Fi but I have never scored as a sensing type and have a tough time considering myself a thinker although everyone I know would categorize me as such it's tough for me to imagine myself as a thinking type because I really see myself as pretty upbeat, warm, optimistic, and caring but I try not to be emotionally manipulative and I would consider myself an intellectual...idk. Like I said, I professionally scored as an ENTJ but I have had two people tell me I seemed more like an ESFP.

2) What do you yearn for in life? Why?

Knowledge, love, friendship, success.

3) Think about a time where you felt like you were at your finest. Tell us what made you feel that way.

I usually feel at my finest when I am explaining something I know well to someone. I guess teaching in general makes me feel good because I am helping people understand things in a new way and I love that feeling so it's nice to share it with other people. I love to see their wheels turning as they learn something new.

4) What makes you feel inferior?

Not having enough money which is most of the time. haha.

5) What tends to weigh on your decisions? (Do you think about people, pro-cons, how you feel about it, etc.)

I think about the end goal and every step along the way to achieve it. Is this plan viable? What hurtles will I have to jump through? If this way doesn't work out, what are the risks involved and what is my alternative plan? I construct multiple plans and back up plans making note of which steps I have control over and which parts I don't, the risks involved in each step, what I will have to do if this happens or what happens, etc. Decisions are made based on time, money, goals, risk, and values. Values in the sense that I don't want to make a decision purely on money alone, I also need my goals to align with my values: health, wealth, kindness, competence, etc. I want to be of service and make money doing it. I also don't want to be stuck in a rut doing something meaningless purely for the cash. Everything I do has to be moving me forward.

6) When working on a project what is normally your emphasis? Do you like to have control of the outcome?

Learning something new, improving a skill, or I mean it depends. Like I like the idea of working on a project that legitimately improves things for people, too. Generally my focus is on self-improvement at this point and making sure the project has value. I let go of control if someone I trust really wants to be in charge.

7) Describe us a time where you had a lot of fun. How is your memory of it?

I went camping in the mountains. It was awesome. I watched the fireflies bounce in the sunset and slept next to a waterfall and when I woke up, a cool mist hung on the air. It was gorgeous and awesome.

8) When you want to learn something new, what feels more natural for you? (Are you more prone to be hands on, to theorize, to memorize, etc)

When I am learning something new, I do several things. The first thing, is to read about it--read everything I can. I ask questions in my head and look for answers. Then, I like to test it out, try it with my hands. I say if...then...and then test it. Come up with more questions and read more. Obviously, this process is only for big ticket items like say I want to know how to fix a car. I read about how a car works, then ask questions, then figure out the tools I need, read about the specific vehicle, come up with a plan, try it out then read up on hitches and fine-tune the process and come up with my own ideas on the matter drawing from my readings and experiences in regards to the subject matter.

9) How organized do you to think of yourself as?

Moderately organized. I go back and forth between ultra organized and then relaxing a bit and then ultra organizing again.

10) How do you judge new ideas? You try to understand the principles behind it to see if they make sense or do you look for information that supports it?

I do both. First I look for principles then I look for evidence that either supports or negates the principles.

11) You find harmony by making sure everyone is doing fine and belonging to a given group or by making sure that you follow what you believe and being yourself?

Both. I definitely want to make sure everyone is taken care of but I also need to make sure my goals are aligned with my personal values.

12) Are you the kind that thinks before speaking or do you speak before thinking? Do you prefer one-on-one communication or group discussions?

Depends on who I am around. When around my friends I will just say whatever. When I am nervous I might ramble on without thinking. When I am comfortable but in a professional setting, I try to think before I speak. I prefer one-on-one communication but I can't always answer questions right away, I often need time to process or else I will just ramble and think of what I meant later. Group discussions are pretty fun, too, though especially when there is a diversity of ideas being expressed.

13) Do you jump into action right away or do you like to know where are you jumping before leaping? Does action speaks more than words?

I like to look before leaping and action does speak louder than words.

14) It's Saturday. You're at home, and your favorite show is about to start. Your friends call you for a night out. What will you do?

I can pause it and watch it tomorrow.

15) How do you act when you're stressed out?

Tense and withdrawn. I can get snappy with objects (like if the printer isn't working) but I can calm down pretty quickly and I try to make sure no one takes my behavior personally by letting them know that it isn't directed at them if they notice it by apologizing. I really don't want to ruin my relations with people just because I'm busy.

16) What makes you dislike the personalities of some people?

I don't like when people are not even aware they are controlling people through manipulation, bullying, or whatever. And they won't even listen to anyone explain how their actions impact people around them.

17) Is there anything you really like talking about with other people?

I like talking about their feelings, aspirations, dreams for the future. I like hearing what they care about, what they are going through as people, what issues they feel strongly about in the world. I like hearing about problems they have faced and how they have overcome them or how I can help them. I like hearing their personal stories and the things they like to do and why.

18) What kind of things do pay the least attention to in your life

Probably the fun stuff. I always think it's so much work to throw a party/decorate/etc. and that kind of thing that I struggle to keep up with contacts, parties, and spectacles which I know are important.

19) How do your friends perceive you? What is wrong about their perception? ? What would your friends never say about your personality ?

My friends perceive me as a very analytical, intense, scientific person who is passionate about figuring stuff out.
What would my friends never say about me: "You're so carefree!"

20) You got a whole day to do whatever you like. What kind of activities do you feel like doing?

Ideal day:
Eat local and organic breakfast and drink some coffee while reading something interesting (a book or a journal or an article or the paper about birds, dolphins, reefs, etc.), climb a mountain and watch the sunrise, listen to the birds and take a look at what they are doing, eat some lunch while reading a book on the beach and take a swim with a dolphin, see a coral reef, meet a starfish, eat a nice dinner with a nice person and we talk about the meaning of life, then I write up notes on birds/reef/dolphins and maybe read about how they communicate or something, attend an interesting lecture and discuss it afterward, do some yoga on the beach and watch the sunset, go home and hop into a comfy bed, snuggle with a puppy, and fall asleep.

@marzipan01 Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, this one's a doozyyyyy, imma need a vacation so I have time to respond to this! That'll probs take me a while, so while imma let me finish; i'll link some profiles you can look at:
INFP Personality Type: The Creative Seeker
ENTP Personality Type: The Intuitive Seeker
INTP Personality Type: Thinker & Seeker

They may just serve to confuse you more but it's a start!
Thanks, yeah, I decided from reading these three that ENTP is not me. Also, I remembered my biggest pet peeve: when people make a claim but don't back it up with an argument or facts or anything. That was a totally random thought but it took me a while to remember. I don't know if that means I'm a thinker or what. I resonate with both the INFP and INTP descriptions but not totally. Like the INFP's desire for social justice and the INTP's hunger for knowledge about how things work.

I will say that ISFPs are very much into the idea of forming themselves each day as anew. Se is lower in the stack, and that is what makes me so different from ESTPS (and there is a huge difference). I think with Fi-Se (and any ISFP can come in and correct me) is Fi seeking out an experience that means something. Se is how they get into an experience and learn from it, getting into it.

Here is a big question that will determine Si-Se for good.

Do you ever feel the need or desire to fully immerse yourself in something? Does the idea of getting in the 'zone' appeal to you?

If not, I would say Si. (and again anyone can correct me on this, it is just my own understanding)

I definitely like getting into the zone. Like when you're running, doing yoga, working on a project, running around at work like a chicken with your head cut off and everything else in your life just disappears? Absolutely. So you definitely think Se, huh?

Oh, and btw thanks for the comment about my avatar. Are you an Arrested Development fan?

@marzipan01 I can defs see the Si too and the Ne preference, but I'm not entirely sure if that's all Ne, but the new experiences for sure :)

Sorry it's been a little while, so what's your current thinking now so I can get up to speed? :) (from your other responses I can see Se too xD)
You know, I can see all the functions so it's dang near impossible to tell. I can see Se-Ni and Ne-Si. I know from when I am writing fiction that it comes a lot more naturally to blend Ne and Ni together. Ni builds the pattern and Ne creates little side tangents and I love that. I know some details, I draw from experience, I get in the zone (Se and Si) but then I use Ne and Ni to fill in the gaps and actually construct the story.

As I have said before with how I learn, I blend theory with hands on Ni then Se then Ni again. Then I synthesize it with other ideas and things I have learned before that's Ne-Si. The quest for new experiences could be seen as Se wanting to enjoy and Ne as wanting to add new ideas to the mix.

I think this is all complicated by being a type 9 enneagram because whenever I get confused like this I just want to say, "Eh, okay, well it isn't really that important anyway." And I usually put some label on or say I don't know what my type is and walk away. I definitely have strong feelings about art and can be a snob sometimes. I get bored pretty easily and usually shy away from trying things that are too dangerous which is why I have never skateboarded before. But I used to roller blade a lot but I never did any tricks or anything because I think that's too freaky.

I definitely wouldn't call myself an adrenaline junkie I just like traveling and learning new things usually I am just looking for new ideas to munch on and when I get too lost in my thoughts I inwardly tell myself, "Munch munch munch let's get back to something useful." lol. So idk if that's really just some intuitive function going and going and going and then Ti or Fi or Te or Fe or something saying, "Come on get it together we have work to do." Te would probably say that I guess.

I am confusing myself.

What do you think?
