I think I did a quick google search a little while back and there wasn't as much on this comparison. (there's a lot on Te vs Ti or Fe vs Fi or even Ti vs Fi...)

What are the major differences?
both are about external judgements, both involve planning or organising, achieving a goal or potentially setting or adhering to the external rules.

But does it really just come down to a preference of people vs objects?

My answers aren't always accurate but I hope this helps. If I'm wrong then someone please correct me.

I'll use INTJ and INFJ as an example right here:

So an INFJ will use their Ni to take in information then apply that information with Fe using external beliefs and values.

An INTJ with use Te to apply their information to external systems.

Te will make people feel incompetent and Fe will make others feel guilty. Fe is focused on the opinions, trends, and feelings of others while Te is focused on the logic and thoughts of the external world.

In dominant Te and Fe, you will see Te appearing as someone who is very concerned with things being logical and efficient in the external world. Imagine a cliche hard-ass boss. Their way or the highway.

Dominant Fe will show up as someone who is very concerned with social situations being harmonious. They are the people who go out of their way to make people feel included. Fe wants people to follow the norms so others aren't uncomfortable.

Both are similar as they can appear judgmental of others, both look at how things aren't living up to their expectations. The difference in the most simple way is that Te is looking at how people are stupid and Fe is looking at how people are ruining their expected harmony.

A Te father will criticize you for making bad decisions, a Fe father will criticize you for being rude.
