hey 6s,

it's only been recently that i've found my little nook in sixdom, and i've been doing a lot of enneagram study since then. i remember when i first learned about the enneagram (back when i thought i was a 4 or 7!), i read some caveat that said artistic 6s can mistype as 4s. that'd be me.

i've taken to typing those around me recently, and i've noticed that a good deal of the people i am fairly sure (or am sure - self-id'd in videos, etc) that are 6s have notably good aesthetic sense, which i find really interesting. most of them seem to have a solid sense of "style", and i'm wondering if and how that connects to 6ness. personally, i'm not particularly creative in the sense of generating new art or music, but i'm an excellent interpreter/stylist and very expressive.

my thinking so far is that 6s tend to use creativity and interpretive thinking all the time, in terms of generating scenarios, so it's unsurprising if we have a well-developed stylistic sense. we are well experienced in detecting patterns and creating variations on a theme.

so, 6s, are you creative/artistic? how so? do you think it connects to your 6ishness?

I can be immensely creative. No matter the form, field or circumstance I can chisel sharply a uniquely creative niche for myself.

In fact, being uncreative is not an option for me,I must present originally,potently...with always some degree of eloquence...beauty..differentness...or not at all.

As to how it relates back to my sixness..i'm not quite certain. What i can speak upon is my need to break from normality.Restriction,tradition...."what has been done" violates the sense of honor i bear regarding my creativity, and i must decimate it..decimate limitation and what will retain me or hold me back.Perhaps that is the relation.

I'm an artistic 4, but have a 6 in my tritype. Sometimes my fear of not accomplishing much with my life does drive me creatively. Even in really dark moods where I'm stuck in melancholy I feel my creativity come out strongly and art calms my anxieties.

That's very familiar to me. I'm a 6w5, not exactly the core you'd say is creative, but I work as a production designer. I can really realate to what you wrote; I can't really create "new" things, when I try to I just feel very lost and keep looking for authority to tell me whether my work is good or bad, can't seem to determine that myself... It just makes me anxious. But when working in the production design field, the "rights" or "wrongs" is always to be found in the script or in the directors wishes, and I can test my creations against that.

Although, of course, if the director has really strong wishes and thoughts about how s/he wants the film to look, I have to rebel against it...

I'm not really creative. It's hard for me to look at a blank (something) and just create.

I find that I can pretty easily piece things together to make something work, though, especially if I have all the correct tools/equipment in front of me. The process of jury-rigging does require a bit of creativity.

Basically, I'm okay as long as I have a good idea of what I want to end up with, but I can't just... make things.

Creativity isnt type related. Good artist is always typed as 4, perhaps cause the name of 4 is "the artist", and typer is an obtrusive donkey.
Salvador dali for ex was more on the 4 side(3w4 or 4w3), with a strong 3. Reading liszt bio suggest more 6 than 4, and beethoven wasnt 4 (5 or 6, most likely 5.
The two last arent really moron at creativity as the 6 description suggest , you must admit.
Many impressionist was seemingly 6 too.

In reality i dont think that enneagram is set in stone like theorie suggest: you can have ppl relating to some 6 , some 1 , some 4 motiv. Ect.
There is strong 6, weak 6, ect.
For ex im a 6 but my motivation in life is to be an artist(into music and/or painting), and different (expressing strong stuff, ect - not just different-trying to express and find myself). But im a six . 6w4?
No: just a six wich replace authority , belief system and way to find security with art.
Errr just fuck enneagram.

Right. And it suck.
Relying on pure theory (FiTe=6 and NiFe=4), van gogh and wladimir Kandinsky was 6. Kandinsky often type estj an vg infp.

Sometimes my fear of not accomplishing much with my life
Unico = FiNe, another fact.
You arent forced to trust me.
The basic difference beetween us is that I rely on jung and you rely on keirsey, mb, ect (who fail)

No, I also rely on Jung. I have read his Personality Types. I am Ni Fe and that is a "fact." And as I said before, I am not interested in hearing your opinions anymore. No one thinks I am FiNe but you. Leave me alone now.

So make more fe demonstration and use more symbolism if u want to appear nife plz
remember too impressionism = fi/si and surrealism = ni generrally
yes yes im an obstinate presumptuous brat but ive nothing vs u.

I actually am very interested in surrealism and almost did a semester-long project on it in high school. However, I do prefer to do Impressionism paintings. I do not think there is a relation to this and type.

the fact is that im too recently interested into surrealism, painting is interressant and music is awesome :D I know its not type related, but I was reading a old post from you that you was on impressionnism mainly. The most well know surrealist is ENFj with a strong Ni.
Personnaly favorite is abstract art, neo impressionnism, and surrealism, but I sometime dont get the meaning of the last one. I appreciate the general harmony and the harmony of symbol used, anyway. But im not too much into painting , im more into music.

I don't think that my being a 6 makes me creative, but it does give my creative outlets (poetry and guitar) plenty of emotion and subjects to work with.

For example, I characterize the music I write as "nervous rock." I use a lot of erratic rhythms and slightly dissonant chords that are "searching" for resolution (to use a corny phrase). In writing a poem, I often start with a nervous feeling or an overwhelming sense of doubt and attempt to resolve it in the ending (and in the same way that I dislike poetry or other writing with easy answers or platitudes, I often try to avoid them in my own works).

Any type can be creative. Type/temperament/personality have a strong hand in what is expressed (which topics, how those topics are handled, how open to interpretation the author intends the work to be, etc.).

--- WARNING ---
Just for you, dear 6, Ive find (long time ago, 3/4 years back at least) a scattered sixish text. After that, ive stopped searching self reflection into writing. This one say all.

--- HERE IS THE TEXT ---
STIG DAGERMAN_Need of Consolation FR and ENG

yeah
Its the crux of all six do in life. This text is the base. Our action, thinking and emotion derive from whats say on this text.

oh yeah
hope you will like and perhaps identify with?

yeah but hemmm, little note :
the discussion about the "need for consolation" isnt really the more important into this. The more important is the style of thinking, the questionnement, and the end.

Possible, but definitely not the one road to creativity.

In fact if we're being nitpicky about 6 and 4s, they might've taken the same road : The road of rebellion.
6s are security seeking, but they are also the ones who will bark first when the authority doesn't suited. And a lot of growth in 6 is to be faithful in themselves and to start relying on themselves.

That can be translated into developing creativity, as a process or as a result.
