Hi to all 5s,

6w5 here. I was wondering what some of your favourite gifts have been over the years. (Im curious about what your wings are too, btw.)

I'd love to know how you think your gift preferences relate to your type and wing, too, if inclined to share.

Thanks!!

(PS: I'm not actually a first-time poster (though, I haven't posted in a couple of years), but I've just started a new account b/c my old username was, unfortunately, a little too recognizable and I get a little uncomfortable when I don't feel I can remain anonymous.)

I like practical gifts such as a new tv (which I received under my Christmas tree recently), or kitchen appliances, gift cards, etc. I'm not a materialistic person so something simple and basic such as a gift card to a local grocery store or a fast food restaurant will do me just fine.

I'm a 5w6, btw.

Amazon gift cards are nice, so I can buy more kindle books. 5w6 So/Sx.

I like practical or really personal gifts. Practical can mean anything from kitchen appliance, to a decorative item I've been wanting, to outdoors/camping equipment. I usually have trouble thinking of things to ask for. I told my MIL about a rug I really wanted this year and she said she wouldn't get it because she wanted to get "something just for me" and a rug is for the house.

I've gotten some really great personal gifts too - photo collages and photo books, a piece of art from someone who knows me well and gets my tastes, etc.

I like best when people make me stuff.
I can never throw out anything that someone made for me, even if it's just some stupid colouring book page they coloured in a few minutes and didn't put much thought into.
Besides that, I enjoy practical gifts. Visa gift cards are my favourite. I actually like getting socks because I always need them.
I like activity gifts as well; Like taking me out to dinner, tickets to a concert together, a pass to an amusement park for us to go to, etc.

I like giving gifts more than getting them too. Maybe it's the "type five-avarice" thing, but it feels special for me to give people things. It's a conscious effort on my part.

Amazon gift cards are the best. I used receive bookstore gift cards more than anything. I prefer picking my own books, and I don't have to act happy that someone gave me Chicken Soup for the Soul or whatever.

Guitar accessories. Musical odds and ends. Something to go with my hobbies and passions, I suppose.

Things I'd actually use. Bicycle pump. Kitchen gadgets. Pens. Sketchpads. My favorite snacks. Nothing fancy.

Spending time doing something new: a visit to a museum, a hike in a caldera, a day fishing, a gig for a band I like. An interesting activity that gets me out of the house and out of my head. I can enjoy my surroundings and/or learn new things in the company of someone tolerable. That's my preferred birthday gift.

I hate receiving knick-knacks, baubles, jewelry (!), photos, art, and stuff like that. For some reason, I've received an inordinate amount of wolf figurines, wolf paintings, and dream catchers over the years. I don't know what it is about me that says, "Man, I could use another wolf-howling-at-the-moon refrigerator magnet." I used to like getting video games, but I prefer buying them myself so I won't feel weird about trading them in.

People shouldn't stress about gifts for me. I like figuring out what to give people based on little observations and knowing their personalities. It makes me seem like a better schemer than I actually am.

I like certain kinds of books (gotta have at least some pictures), games, and dolls (particularly living dead dolls and little apple dolls). And I often get money and gift cards.

I go with amazon gift cards as well. Number 1 are books on chess, medical science and how to-books. Next thing I like are high quality, durable items, custom made and puristic like functional watches (citizen for example). I think, 5w6 think of themselves as quite pioneers in matter of mental volumes, so they prefer not to be cluttered with foreign concepts of style and utility.

Also, I like pens and paper note and sketching books.

Thank you for all the replies. This is very helpful. There's a five in my life that I find it hard to pick the right gifts for. Not because I don't know him, but because I feel most of the gift ideas I have seem too obvious to show that I really thought about it, that I really thought about him and not a generic person with interest xyz. At the same time, that's not really of much use if they aren't things they genuinely like (e.g. knickknacks for the sake of knickknacks).

Practical things are the best:

Clothing is highly appreciated, if you know what you're doing (no t-shirts with prints, nothing "yelly").

A nice belt, a nice shirt suitable for work, pants, a shawl, gloves, all such things are the best. Even socks.

Kitchen stuff is cool.

Phone/tablet cover, also cool.

Anyway, I often have precious little time to get practical things I need so helping me out there is a great gift and I can think of you when I'm using it^^

Don't buy me things that will take my time (like plants that need to be watered - they will die, I guarantee it; or clothes that need to be dry cleaned or handwashed - they will not be but left unworn)

I'm a starving 5w4 musician so I usually ask for instrument cables, violin/guitar strings, rosin, or picks. With all those basic needs out of the way, I'm more able to afford the real fun stuff like pedals. Informative, nonfiction books are another thing I get excited for.

Books, movies, video games I don't like other people buying me clothing they usually have no idea what I like and tend to pick stuff I cannot wear or would never wear

I tend to enjoy stuff that's either personal, like photo albums or handmade things. Or stuff that generally I would like, like science kits or books both fictional and nonfictional about stuff I may like.

So good gifts for me would be when someone takes in consideration for the things I like!

I enjoy gifts that come with room for personalization. For example, a few years back, my sister got me an iPod Nano for my birthday. It was a simple and practical gift that was completely customizable (with me being able to fill it with my music and yada, yada). I still use it everyday.

An Amazon gift card not only suffices, it fills me with joy because the possibilities are endless. I let them build up until I have hundreds of dollars, then shopping spree time. Or just money will do.

I like gifts relating to TV shows/fandoms that I'm into. Little plushies and memorabilia to add to my evergrowing packrat collection. Just to give my living space the aura of all of those things. It shows that the person really knows me, and is paying attention. Books relating to art/cartooning because I'm always opened to learning new techniques revolving around that. If you get me books related to what I'm into, movies, shows, I'll be satisfied too. Books about animals, the weird unknown stuff, I'll be happy with too. Art supplies, a new sketchpad because I'm always getting new ideas and those things fill up quickly when I have time on my hands.

Getting T shirts relating to things I'm interested in. I have a 4 wing with my 5 fix, so it relates to identity. The art stuff relates to how I value creativity. I'm a core 9w1, and E9 has a rich, idealized innerworld, and much of this stuff keeps me occupied, helps me delve into my little world of interests. The fact that I like money related gifts, I suppose goes into the sin of avarice in the literal sense. Relating to E5 in general, the avarice comes to knowledge, and if it's a book gift, I spend a lot of time, shut away in my room, reading the books on repeat.
