Hello friends,

As someone who primarily listens to rap, I'm curious to know how many INFP rappers there are around. People often say that Kid Cudi and Nas are INFP, but who else?

These are wildly speculative (so feel free to disagree with me):

Dem atlas - Charlie brown EP was incredibly INFPish and he's certainly not afraid to show his sensitive side.

Bishop Nehru - 'Mean the most', 'So alone' and the outro from 'caskets' on Nehruviandoom seem very INFPish.

Eyedea - Insights from his mother on his facebook page seem to paint a picture of an INFP, especially childhood stories. The message of his music was consistently didactic and the way he vacillates between ideas in very INFPish.

Sage Francis - 'The best of times', his didacticism and his dry and ironic sense of humour seem to make him more of an INFP than anything else.

Ras kass - In interviews he likes to talk about the issues of the music industry and he seems to have a sensitive side. I've heard it before that he's an INFP somewhere before, but I'm not sure where.

Watsky - He seems to drift off a lot, even in interviews. He's incredibly gifted with language and he seems to have a strong sense of what is right.

Vast aire - His verses are very poetic and abstract in a way that many other INFPs are. He tends to deal with concepts while Vordul mega deals with detail in their songs. See 'Pigeons' by Cannibal ox.

I know that it is very difficult to type performers considering that I don't know them personally and that they tend to have a 'stage personality' of sorts.

Thanks in advance guys :)

I want to say, Drake......Not familiar with the others you have mentioned.
Thanks for the reply!

I don't listen to Drake's music much but people really seem to disagree on his typing. On another thread, someone did indeed type him as being an INFP. That said, he's also been typed as being an ENFJ, ISFJ, ENFP but also an ENTJ... He certainly isn't straightforward :(

Possibly Grieves, that or INFJ most likely. BTW Props for knowing about Eyedea! R EYE P
I originally thought that Grieves was an INFP from his lyrics, but I think you're right in saying that he's an INFJ. I'm not sure if you're aware that he has an advice column in the Minneapolis city pages, but from the advice he gives alone it seems like he's more of an INFJ.

Yeah, it's such a shame that someone with such talent passed away at such a young age... Eyedea seemed like such an amazing individual :(

Nas and Talib Kweli.

I think you can make a case for Nas being an INFX at the very least.
Absolutely!

Could Talib Kweli possibly be an ENFP? I'd say that he, Common and Cormega would be ENFP although I could be mistaken. But I'm certain that he would be XNFP.

does anyone listen to kendrick lamar? i really liked good kid maad city, and his lyrics seems pretty infp-esq to me. His whole vibe centers around being part of a culture which he silently resents and doesn't completely fit in with and sees as empty and destructive. the lyrics are all pretty symbolic and poetic, "If I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room, would you trust it?"

Other people on the forums who know about eyedea and grieves  But seriously, eyedea is one of my favorite artists, and so is kid cudi, kid cudi seems very infp to me. Eyedea....... it's hard to tell, but I wouldn't doubt it. I'm excited to see someone who actually knows of artists from that side of rap.......Rhymesayers etc :proud:

I just listened to the entirety of 'good kid, m.A.A.d city' whilst reading the lyrics and I am seriously impressed. I knew how popular he was but I somehow I had never listened to anything of his. The album is so damn coherent from start to finish... He's such a potent storyteller!

There are two lyrics that I'd like to highlight:

"Hope euphoria can slow dance / with society" - Euphoria, in this context, refers to drugs (including alcohol) but also to the state of being euphoric. He hopes that anything positive can slow down the injustices within the society that he lives in especially with substance abuse. From an interview, he says "I always wanted to put that hope and that type of vulnerability out there where I'm always being this dreamer... what separates me from the rest of my homeboys is that I can dream".

and

"Everybody gon' respect the shooter / but the one in front of the gun lives forever" - What a strong way to show the immediate physical power of fear (of the gun in this case) whilst simultaneously portraying Dave as a martyr of Compton (as he will end up in heaven and live forever through song). On top of this, Lamar is suggesting that there will always be oppressed people 'in front of the gun'. If it were worded any other way, it's unlikely that you'd be able to read into it this far.

Yeah, he seems really INFPish to me. Thank you so much Harpseal for persuading me to listen to the album :) I'm such a fan of him now!

I always thought kendrick lamar was INFP too, he seems to have that deeper, more introverted intensity, and he always seemed a bit abstract, I'm not sure if it's just because I'm INFP because I really enjoyed his music because of that unfocused abstractness.

Stefan Burnett of death grips has some pretty infp lyrics, and in a few interviews he talks about being disinterested in surface reality and being reluctant to share his personal life with anyone other than close friends. He's also an incredible painter.

Kendrick seems ENFP
Nas I see as an INFJ

I think pretty much all rappers are going to be EXXX as it's very upfront and you have to put in a lot of energy into stating your thought's aloud. I think there are plenty of ENFP type rappers though such as

Q Tip
Nas
Mos Def
Chuck D
Opio
Doom
O.C

As for Hiphop all together, I'm 150% sure J Dilla is INFP

Shad K I believe to be an INFP, his song ''I heard you had an voice of an angel'' shows quite how he relays his values in songs (amazing lyrics in that song btw).

Substantial could be an INFP (also part of Bop Alloy)
Cise star (part of CYNE)
One Be Lo (Binary Star)

Edit: Trying to place link without the video didn't work so here you
