Type 3- abnormal INTJ

Undoubtedly I am a type 3- probably wing 4. The description fits me like a glove; I'm extremely ambitious, focus (probably too much) on my self image, and use deceit in order to exaggerate my accomplishments. I'm hitting a roadblock with my MBTI though. I have been researching and taking tests for a while now and everything is pointing to me being an INTJ. My cognitive functions are definitely introverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging, but in no way do I behave like the stereotypical INTJ- its like the functions come together in a different way than normal.
I'm not extremely withdrawn from the world, but I prefer my own company to others. I can adapt to social situations quickly and I have no problem socializing for a couple hours- I even enjoy it if I'm with the right people. So I'm just wondering, do you think its possible I'm just a unique INTJ? Or do you think I'm incorrectly typed?

Stop paying attention to stereotypes.

I can't express this enough.

If you're truly an INTJ, I don't know how rare it is to be 3w4 INTJ. I am one, too. To be specific, I am tri-type 387 or maybe 385. Still trying to figure it out. Though, 387 is known as the extrovert.

The cognitive functions are Thinking, Feeling, Sensation, and Intuition, and each one of them are either introverted and extroverted.

Sensation and Intuition are perceiving functions -- If one is introverted, the other is extroverted.
Thinking and Feeling are judging functions -- Same.

You have one dominant function. If it's introverted-judging function, the next is an extroverted-perceiving functions. Visa versa, etc.

Fill out one of the MBTI questionnaire, if you haven't already, and send me a link. I might take the time to look at it and help you out.

Don't pay attention to the stereotypes, but if you figure out your tritype you can get a glimpse into three individual parts of your psyche. In my experience, all three parts seem to be present in varying degrees. Some days I feel more like a 9 than a 6. Heck today I felt like a 4.

Either way, just familarize yourself with what aspects you see in yourself. The more you know of your pitfalls the more of an opportunity you have to not fall prey to them.

I also don't relate to most of the ENFP stereotypes as well. I'm way more pessimistic and can actually make/follow through on my plans haha.

IMO, type 3 is a lot more common than most INTJs (online) want to admit. I'm guessing half of the people who type as 5 or 8 are probably 3s

But yeah, I agree with everyone else who said to ignore stereotypes. I'm an INTJ 6w7, and that's certainly not stereotypical...

I know your 4 wing desperately wants you to be unique, but there are a few of us floating around these parts. Typically the ENTJ is more likely to be a 3 than an INTJ.

As for as MBTI goes, this is the test that most INTJs in the forum regard as the most accurate one:

I'm a type 3 too but mine usually comes up as 3w2 although I've gotten a 4 before on another site. Really want more description on type 3 INTJs as I've only heard about 5s, 1s and 9s. I can come off as an extrovert at times and act rather goofy. I don't deceive people for my benefit though (I hate lying). I only do it when I'm pulling a prank; I'm rather silly. I have a decent amount of Fe but a lot of Fi (I heard type 3 is a feeling enneagram type). I used to be concerned with appearance as an adolescent but now don't care as much but do have expensive taste when I do buy clothes. I used to conform in middle school and was a delinquent. I don't necessarily care what people think of me personally but do somewhat want to be successful with my ambition (being a novelist) which calls for some form of external validation I suppose. I do want to be remembered for my achievements but I won't go through great lengths that include deceit or dishonesty to get it. I want to be good at everything and have many many skills, which does include people skills. I do want to be an inspiration for others. /rant over.

I just recently discovered that I am a type 3 INTJ (I thought I was a type 5 but was mistyped). I would not pay any attention at all to the stereotypes that seemingly "define" INTJs. Like you, I am not socially withdrawn or inept in any way. I also prefer my own company over the company of others but, when among people, my 3-ish tendencies definitely shine.
My cognitive functions point me in the direction of INTJ, as well. Always have. To make matters more complicated, I am a 3w2 INTJ.

Still, I find that my Enneagram and MBTI type come together quite nicely for the most part.

I don't understand how type 3's are correlated to any mbti type. Doesn't it strike anyone that we are living in an extremely achieving society, as soon as people leave school, many of them are mostly concentrating on how they are going to achieve what they want. In England, the uni population is vastly huge, everybody wants to get a degree and a prestigous job, its normal. Id even think that nearly everyone is modern society has 3 in their tritype. And the other reasons for wanting the job are due to craving security, another reason why 6 is a common type. In fact, although it is not a concrete fact, 3, 6 and 9 are the frequent types and it makes sense because the qualities of these types are highly valued nowadays.

It's interesting you say that. I belive 3s are image-based, not success-oriented, but this culture places status in the hands who are successful and powerful. I've read the most common tri type is 3 6 9 in some order, so you could be onto something there.

There is this stereotype about 3s that they care desperately what others think of them, but INTJs don't give two shits about what others think. I think that's where the conflict lies.

Another INTJ core 3w4 here. My head fix is definitely 6w5 but I'm still struggling to find my gut fix. I'm an ENTj in socionics. You can't rely on tests to type you. They can, at best, point you in the right direction. You can't rely on one description, either. You need to read a lot about the different types and how they attempt to describe personality.
