I've been wondering if there's any correlation between our sensory function and our music taste.

This is how i see it

Se: electro, dance, epic, trance, dubstep, ecc

Si: classical, jazz, indie, rock, blues, metal, rap, ecc

I don't know, maybe post one of your favorite songs, let's see if there is any pattern going on.

I'll start

This is one of my favorites, the bass drop at 1:00 is godlike, it has a perfect combo of melody and rhythm.

I like a song for the sound itself, lyrics are not necessary... meaning is not necessary.

Idk about that pattern. I like and dislike some types from both your groups.

I like some electric dance music. Pretty Lights and Gramatik are two of my favorites. But heavy techno or trance music is not my thing.

As for the second group, I absolutely love rock and blues. (Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Rolling Stones, Hendrix, RHCP, Cage the Elephant, Lana del Rey) I have no interest in rap and cannot stand metal though.

I absolutely hate the options you have under Se. Though I like some options under Si. I like classical, jazz, blues, and rap.

I used to be pretty involves in the hip hop scene so I've developed a taste for hip hop.
My favorite song currently is luv sic part 6 remix

Another one of my favorites

Cise Star is my favorite rapper. His lyrics are beyond gold.

Yeahhh, I'm not fond of all the Se choices either. Particularly dubstep. Eek. Early dubstep sounded alright to me, but I find most of it to just be kind of... nauseating?

I like random things from all sorts of genres, but at the same time I have a really picky ear. I'm a really rhytmic person and I play a few instruments so a lot of times it's just a couple of measures with a certain beat or chord progression that real that gets me hooked on the song. Quite few songs make me feel a bit emotional (gasp!) and end up being favorites of mine too. Music is actually one of the most effective ways to invoke some sort of emotional response from me.

My tastes are eclectic but not extensive, if that makes sense.

Hip hop: Nujabes, Cise Star, Pharcyde, Nas, Mos Def, CYNE, J Dilla, Specifics
Electronic: Daft Punk, Phantogram, Justice, Kavinsky & some random songs from Deadmau5, Feed Me, & Dillon Francis
Hipster shit: Beach House, Grizzly Bear, The xx, Arcade Fire, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Andrew Bird
Rock: Muse, The Strokes, Coldplay (when they were still decent), Radiohead, Gorillaz, Franz Ferdinand
Romantic Era Music: Debussy, Chopin, Rachmaninoff
Downtempo/Glitch Hop: Bonobo, Four Tet, Blockhead, Royksopp, TOKiMONSTA, Flying Lotus, Pretty Lights, Freddie Joachim
Post-rock: Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions In The Sky

This is one song I've been drawn to lately.

The way i drift in and out of music, I dont have any clear favorite types and enjoy random songs and bits that I hear.

When I like a song its usually for the rhythm or musical structure of it and unless theyre really good/relatable/stick out words dont really matter. Lately I've prolly been into rock, classic, rap/hiphop, pop and a bit of jazz

I think it's pretty difficult to pin music to types or functions. I haven't observed any patterns.

This is the kind of music I typically go for:

But I have varied taste. I like a lot of country. And I'm fascinated by the song "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry despite typically hating anything pop/hip-hop related.

I've never been able to find a connection between cognitive functions and musical preferences. It seems cultural and generational to some extent, then the personal preferences outside of that really vary.

My criteria for good music:

1. Great lyrics. Either ironic, intellectual, uplifting, deep, witty, etc.
2. Makes me wanna fuck.
3. Sounds like a soundtrack/helps me imagine

That's about it.

Examples: Franz Ferdinand, Muse, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, The Kills, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Exotica.

2. Makes me wanna fuck.
Interesting. That is quite the category.

But I am normally into pretty much anything that I deem sounds appealing.
More than likely can catch me listening to Rock, Hip-Hop/Rap, Electronic, Jazz, Pop, R&B, J-Rock&Pop.
Been listening to a ton of Liquid Drum and Bass lately though.

Anything that generally has a good beat that sounds good in the right mood works for me. I really do love listening to music, it strikes a good chord with me.

thanks for your feedback guys

I simply associated Se with melody/rhythm and Si with lyrics/meaning, I don't exactly know why I did that, but yeah

I just know that when I hear Si music (these of my list), I'm like... what am i supposed to do while listening to this?
The "Se" genres you had listed (dubstep, house, edm) have more obvious and steady rhythms, usually 120bpm, which is the most "danceable" tempo. I think that's why you associated them with Se

But the "Si" categories of music you listed are full of melody and rhythm too. For me, listening to music is a really engaging experience on its own, and it doesn't really have to make me feel like moving in order for me to enjoy it. Even with songs that are supposed to have powerful lyrics, usually I'm drawn to the sound more than I am the meaning.

I don't think any style of music is inherently either Si or Se; Si and Se have more to do with how the listener processes the music.

If it is a country song my favorite is when it ends. As a rock musician who writes songs, I can't deny the fact if it has such amazing chord progression that it really makes me jealous. Lately, I have been really been impressed with Elliott Smith. Listen to "Between the bars" and "Miss Misery". I am pretty good song writer, like you know the ones that actually use more than G and C with a thrown in D. Anyways, I tried to play an Elliott smith song today, and I was like WTF I can't believe modern artists write stuff like this. Also what makes it beauty is that if a novice listens to the song that it flows sooo well they will think it is simple. More Human Than Human is simple, it is only one chord I think A.. Honestly though that is impressive in its own right. Ok any takers who would like to publish this book I just wrote??

Listener that goes by musical structure and the competence of the group. The lyrics themselves do not show up on the radar at all, just how they accompany a piece.

I am one of those coworkers who would either get a song stuck in their head or be listening to their MP3 player and be headbanging around the workplace, it is just how I roll.

current music at the moment?

i'd say any music that is easy to walk fast to, or dance to (sadly i can't dance)
and probably anything that is relaxing and soothing.

Funny when i am doing something that requires concentration i prefer not to listen to music with any sort of talking or a language i can understand :x preferably the more instrumental the less singing the better :3

I like real music. Complex time signatures (12/8, 9/8, ect..), time signature changes, key changes, stuff like that. Music with good structure as @DemonAbyss10 said. Music with a good 'driving' rhythm (And not driving as in car, driving rhythm as in pushy)

Classical music would be a good example. Or the band Dream Theater.

I don't like a lot of electronic music because it's too repetitive.

I can't really pinpoint what makes me like a song as it tends to vary. Though I'll give it a try.
Based on my mood, I tend to like songs that:
- Have depressing, sappy lyrics (though I'm nowhere near sappy).
- Have a ramble of cheesy and nonsensical lyrics (sometimes all you need is a song to get you lost in the moment, not one that'll make you even sadder about life).
- Has a catchy beat.
- Has acoustic.

Latest song I'm obsessed with:

A lot of the music I like centers around what I was doing/seeing/feeling when I heard it the first time.

I know there's a lot of groups/songs that I love because of a movie it was in, and I'll usually remember the scene playing when I hear that song again.

For example, I don't think I would have liked "Crazy" by Gnarles Barkley if I hadn't heard it when they performed it at the MTV Music Awards.
