Obviously we have emotions but me and my ISTP cousin had a discussion about music, he apparently doesn't get anything from music alone, he needs a story to go with it and what not. I on the other hand get... not really emotional, emotional in the sense that I'm sobbing or anything but, I do get goosebumps depending on the song and sometimes they're really strong.

I've cried to music and have become excited the usual stuff, some has made me happy, but again these aren't over the top just like... I'm happy not jumping around excited and these feels sometimes don't last long at all, if I move on to another subject in my brain the emotions get kinda cut off.

I'm just wondering if other ISTPs are more like me, you get the "feels" from music sometimes often depending more on your mood? Or do most ISTPs act like my cousin and don't get anything from music at all?

Yep. It's hit or miss for me, many songs that swarms of people go nuts for do nothing for me, and once I think a song is lame I can't stand it. But the songs I like, yeah, definitely a way to access the feels. I don't think to reach for it when I need it, but when it's there it gets me. It's always there in my car when I need to go for a drive, or in my mp3 player when I need to go for a walk.

I love listening to music while driving, and anymore I love new country and all its songs about cranking the music while driving, etc. Why did I listen to so much melancholic and depressive music in high school and college? I'm not an NF, I'm an SP, don't need to wallow in moods and emotions. Keep my head up, keep looking forward, and enjoy the little things. Life is as simple as you make it.

Yup I agree with the bold stuff, sometimes I feel like I need to access them and cry a little or get happy so I'll listen to the corresponding song needed, I hate some songs and even the ones I like are kind of... like I love 'em, I get the feels but sometimes I just don't care so I skip 'em.

Music is one of the few things that can make me feel, or at least remind me that I have feelings. If a song doesn't make me feel anything then I won't like it. I've listened to an entire Josh Groban CD like...10 times? I don't know, I don't necessarily like his style, but that shit makes me feel sad as hell, and I like experiencing that feeling. Weird?

Ehh sometimes. I've felt strong emotions with music.

But to be honest, I'm not a music person, I despise to listen to "background music", I only listen to music if I'm in a very specific scenario which most of the times is driving (or sitting in a car).
I cannot stand it when I'm on someone's place and they put the stereo with music playing, I despise it and get extremely uneasy.
There is literally no band which I can bring myself to listen in entirety, I mean, I can only listen like 4 songs per band and thats it.

I'm pretty much the same I don't listen to a whole bands music I listen to a few then move on or come back to em after a while but it's always the same songs.

@bollocks It's not weird at all, sadness has feelings similar to other emotions, goosebumps being one of them, some get them through sadness, I get them through sadness, happiness and fear so I once used to think sad music music made me happy until I really... looked at what I was feeling I guess besides the physical.

There are songs where the vocals and/or music is so great, I get goosebumps. And there are really emotive songs that leave me a mess. I don't really listen to the radio, but one of the new songs hits me so hard, it's fucking embarrassing.

I heard the song first and it was so relatable (duh, mainstream). It's sad as shit. Then, I saw the video and I was done.

@GinningPuma4011 Yeah I know the song... same thing happened here :blushed:.

Isn't it kind of strange how we are supposed to be the stereotypical hero and we are easily affected by music like this? Hard on the outside and soft on the inside.

Affected by music? Add me to the list. I remember mentioning in another thread that music is one of the few things that can really get my emotions going. Anywhere from that weird happy feeling I get from a good beat, feling pumped, to feeling sad a shit. I also have a musical background that probably has something to do with it.

I dunno, to me it makes sense. I think that we're seen as the calm and collected type not because we're not emotional at all, but rather because atypical things trigger our emotions.

That song in particular has a really strong impact on me. It describes my dad's, my sister's and my own relationship with my mom, word-for-word, and it came out during the thick of our family conflict. Lol, I'm tearing up a little GOD DAMN IT.

Yeah apparently we are "hyper-emotional", all or nothing, we'll cry over sad songs and movies but thoughts rarely affect us. What do you mean by atypical things? Atypical meaning abnormal I was slightly confused, I thought feeling things through music is pretty typical tbh.

I guess I meant that we sort of have atypical emotional tendencies. Being moved by music isn't inherently strange, but I'm not sure how many people that are moved by music are also pretty emotionless elsewhere. So basically agreeing with what you said, except in my head the whole concept didn't seem too strange.

And yep I'm kinda the same way with movies too. I'll just be watching something and all of a sudden that urge to cry comes up kinda randomly, and I look around and it seems like no one else seems to be affected. I think it's usually when the music comes in that I'll get the urge. It happens with the weirdest stuff too--I remember seeing the trailer for "Earth" with prancing polar bears and shit with that Sigur Ros song in the background and I felt like crying. WTF?

Ah yeah we're pretty weird XD. I agree our emotions are quite strange.
