Curious if there is/are function(s) that correlate to having a good overall sense of direction.

My sense of direction is so abysmal I frequently get lost and always stress out when driving somewhere new. Well...I stress out about driving in general unless there's someone with me, but that's beside the point.

Anyone else have this problem? Is it type related at all, or completely separate from MBTI?

I think Se doms would be pretty good at directions.

I am INFJ too and I tend to be pretty sucky at directions. My first week at work, I lost my way home and I ended up walking for one hour.
Gosh, it's one hour! I could have done something more productive with that 1 hour
Then there is another time when my friend gave me her house address and I was supposed to go to my friend's house, I ended up going to the wrong house.

I always make sure to carry a map as well as a bus guide with me these days whenever I go to new places.

INTP here.

I can look at a map, remember it (or at least enough of it to find where I need to go), and do just fine. As I get to know my way around an area I start experimenting with shortcuts and alternate routes. When I go somewhere for the first time, I do best to remember a combination of streets and landmarks (though that may be due to my sex rather than my type). However, while I may get to the point of being able to find my way anywhere, I suck at giving directions. It's like "I know it when I see it" when I find my way somewhere - I could probably guide them there, but can't give directions.

Wow, a lot of other INFJ's have this dealio. For the longest time I thought there was something wrong with me or that I was spatially retarded or something. I got lost in a mall once and had to call for help. Srsly, that's sad XD

I'm an INTJ and I'm also pretty terrible with directions. I also really identify with this:

Without a GPS I'd never get anywhere.

I wonder if Te kinda helps with that? From what I've noticed more INFJ's have difficulty with direction then do INTJ's. The two INTJ's I know are just fine with directions.
I was thinking something similar. My dad is an INTJ and is fine. But I have seen other INTJ on here say they aren't good at driving/directions. I am actually good at driving. Except parking. I always have the worst parked car on the block. Sticks out like a sore thumb, in most places I park.

Breakdown the INFJ:

Ni- that's not gonna help with directions
Fe- that's not gonna help
Ti- possibly, but I doubt it
Se- this will help

So, we basically have to rely on our last function. Only person I know who is as bad at directions as me, is my INFP friend.

INFP here, I have zero sense of direction and no sense of orientation.

If you tell me to reach a certain place without a GPS, expect me to get lost and either show up hours later or hesitantly call you just to say I'm lost and I don't know where I am. I used to get lost even in my own neighborhood, no matter how familiar I am with a place, I'll never remember the directions and I'll just wander around. Oh and trains, I've taken the wrong one or got off at the wrong station so many times I could write a book about it! Often during the same day! I'm completely clueless about my surrounding and practical details and the worst part is that I'm also too hesitant to ask for directions so I have to aimlessly attempt to check where I am using my phone's maps... sometimes not even that works. Haha I'm awful!

I'm an INFP and I'm awful with directions and keeping track of where I'm going. I rely on other people to help me find my way around, though I should probably learn my way around places myself, but..you know....that takes effort

My ISTP friend is very good with directions and can handle a map with ease.

If I'm taking the lead, I'm good with directions. But if I'm in the car with someone else, I'll completely space out and not notice half the trip. So then if I was to drive, I'd have to ask where to go, and the response would be, "We've been there a hundred times! How do you not know!"
I know if I have to know.

I have a terrible sense of direction too. I am frequently tripping over things, bumping into people, and generally just not walking in a straight line. Lol.

Oh right, this post is about driving  Pretty much just proves my point. I ended up in the wrong thread.

Oh, it's about driving... Whoops. This is why I should check.
