Paul Atreides in Dune (1984 film) is an INTJ protagonist. He is INTJ in Ni/Fi sleep. He does also sound INTJ in the new Dune (2021 film), just guessing?

ENTJ vs. INTJ training fight:

Dune - Paul Atreides [HD]

Paul Atreides as a Scholar archetype (The sleeper, Ni/Fi) with his father - He introverts his feelings - what he values and how he feels about it.

"Dune" (1984): The Sleeper Must Awaken

Paul Atreides awakened - Ni/Te - He starts extraverting his thoughts and goes ahead to command an army and his true temperament then shoes up as Melancholie-Phlegmatic-Choleric (INFJ is not choleric in temperament)

I'm not convinced his core character would change depending on the adaptation. Sometimes that happens with movie adaptations to books, but what distinguishes those changes?

Paul Atreides appears to be a Ni dominant/Se inferior "Heroes Journey" fantasy. That one can hold absolute knowledge and power over external circumstances through foresight, but in the end is totally at the mercy of what that foresight brings.

In reference to the books:

WM: I find this that in one of the … or some of the internal conflicts which are bothering Paul, that the ethical norm which he sees as being one of say absolute rightness as opposed with the law of moral necessity, and these are clashing in him … these are tensions that work within Paul which cause him, I think, to have a depth of characterisation that you don’t normally find within the normal science fiction novel.
FH: You hit on, of course, the way the character of Paul was constructed. It was the conflict between absolutes and the necessity of the moment.
WM: Yes.
FH: And…
WM: It’s almost an existential necessity, incidentally, as I caught it…as I read it.
FH: That’s right; that’s absolutely right. Absolutely.
WM: (Laughter) Gee, thanks!
FH: You see, this is an exercise in showing up, you might say, the fallacy of absolutism.
WM: Even to be absolute about being non absolute, because Paul is bothered with that very problem.
FH: That’s right.
WM: How absolute can he be and yet…in his relationships with his subordinates; with Stilgar, for example, if he’s too absolute, he loses…you know…he gains…how did you put it in the novel?.. he saw … he sees the loss of a friend and the gain of a worshipper, almost. I…
FH: He gains…he loses a friend and gains a worshipper.
WM: A worshipper. Yes; and this kind of conflict: if he’s too absolute here and non absolute there or in the necessity…when the tribe tries to force upon Paul the apparent necessity for killing Stilgar and he has to talk the tribe out of one of their tribal rules in order...
FH: A moral…
WM: Yes, right.
FH: A moral rule.
WM: A moral rule.
FH: And you see how the moral rule was developed out of the necessities of their background.
WM: Yes. Exactly.
FH: And he was given them, then, an ethical rule.
FH: Yes. But he…here is Paul. He’s physically blinded and yet he knows everything… everything…that’s going to happen. He’s lived this one before. Think of how boring that is but think of how mysterious and terrifying…
WM: That it would be to everybody else. Yes, sure.
FH:
A guy…it would be as though I without sight, you see; I had nothing but a couple of sockets here, and my comes in and picks up a cigarette out of a package…I lean over and light it for her.
WM:
And say it’s a Pall Mall.
FH:
Yes, and say “Oh, you’re back to Pall Mall’s.”
WM: Yes.
FH: Paul does such things as grabbing a microphone out of a trooper’s hand and relaying orders immediately after the accident in which his eyes are lost…and greeting people in the hallway as he passes them. The…of course it builds up this terrifying god head among the people around him, but it also foreshadows their turning against him, because if a person really does this sort of thing to you, you’re going to get away from him one way or another.
WM: They crucify him.

Also, consider this:

Sure you're not mistaking Ni-Fe as "Ni/Fi"? Paul carries a distinct flavor of a "dark" INFJ character arc, a prophet/messiah archetype, emotionally conversant and complex, wrestling with his moral obligations of influence. I don't think this ever changes, does it?

Not that these descriptions are an "end-all-be-all" but just to provide a little contrast:

Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life. Those who are activists -- INFJs gravitate toward such a role -- are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power.
INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden. They often are found in the wake of an emergency, rescuing those who are in acute distress. INFJs may fantasize about getting revenge on those who victimize the defenseless. The concept of 'poetic justice' is appealing to the INFJ.
INFJ Profile (typelogic.com)

INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest. What prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake.

INTJs are known as the "Systems Builders" of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system an INTJ happens to be working on is for them the equivalent of a moral cause to an INFJ; both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play, as INTJs can be unsparing of both themselves and the others on the project.

Thomas Jefferson who planned out the whole American constitution as INTJ - He is ENTJ

Lance Armstrong as INTJ, he is ESTP. (Inferior Ni. Although some INTJs have been know to struggle with alcohol addictions, I have personally only been drunk once and have never taken any narcotics in my entire life. My intuition knows the consequences this would have had on my health if I had chosen otherwise.)

Inferior Introverted Intuition
As an inferior function, Ni originally manifests as a scorn or distaste for over-analyzing what is obvious or over-planning for the future.
As inferior introverted intuition matures, the user may find themselves developing a keen ‘hunch’ for the way things are bound to unfold in the future and will enjoy entertaining these ideas.
The inferior-Ni monologue (prior to maturation):“Everyone needs to stop over-analyzing everything, the answers are literally right in front of us.”

Also INFJ is not a messiah archetype, it's a sage archetype (see the 12 common archetypes). INFJ as messiah is internet folklore.

Good point I also have the same impression. However it sounds like his speech becomes a bit more TJ-like due to his small super power and it may become more and more this way under the influence of the spice.

I watched it a few days ago and this Paul Atreides is INFJ. They've added more depth to the characters and the previous Paul Atreides sounds more like an Fi user, INTJ with an ENFJ father. Paul Atreides in Dune 2021 is now clearly a sage archetype as we see very little of him as a scholar.

The INTJ is Lady Jessica Atreides while the father of Paul, Duke Leto Atreides, is ENTJ (He has a need to understand the mechanics on how things works with his own eyes by getting out there and he is pretty action oriented and not so much accommodating ie. He tells his son off.)

Lady Jessica and Duke Leto are both initially more T (thought) - Logical, reasonable, questioning, critical and tough over F (feeling) - Empathetic, compassionate, accommodating and accepting. This is what they do first, when it truly matters, that counts.

Lady Jessica Atreides is an NTJ magician archetype.

Same here, I adored it. It's truly captivating how Denis Villeneuve highlights the femininity within the narrative ie. with Jessica as well as Paul's lover - Chani:

For me, it was important to bring more femininity to the story. I am fascinated by the relationship of femininity and power, the place of women in society. Eric Roth said, 'If you had one aspect of the novel you would like me to focus on, what would it be?' I said, 'The women.'
The entire story unfolds because of Lady Jessica, because of a decision she made to give birth to Paul instead of a girl [via a breeding programme]. She's a fascinating character, one of the most influential and most interesting in the novel.

In a similar vein Ritchie Blackmore who is also INTJ does the same with my Blackmore's Night

For instance, what is going to be the type of Chani Kynes and Alia Atreides and why?

Alia Atreides is Paul Atreides' Sister and she is to be revealed in Dune 2023 movie.

The premiere will take place in November and I can't wait! All the more so that there will be my favorite actress in the main role - Zendaya

They do give some interesting insights in this interview. What is so special about this science fiction saga is that it is also a psychological thriller.

By the way, another important lady character in Dune 2 is the Reverend Mother. Here Denis Villeneuve talks about an important scene. I put it in a spoiler for those who would rather watch this incident after Dune Part 1 and 2.
