I've just started reading Fellowship of the Ring so I'll type the film characters then come back when I've finished later and give my take on the book versions

Froddo- ESTP he pranks Gandallf in the beginning as he arrives, also when he had the ring he shouted a lot
Sam Gamjee- INTJ very easy one
Peregrin "Pippen" Took- ISTP strong second-breakfast vibes
Mery- INFP
Billbo- ENFJ he talks to the entire crowd at his 111th birthday party
Gandelf- ESFJ talks to Frodo a lot about his past adventures with Bilbbo so Si, knows all the different creatures and races over middle earth so Fe, I was drawn to ISFJ but I think he leads with his Fe
Aragone- ESFP always in the moment, good in a fight, F because he loves Awren
Gimlie- too hard to type, he doesn't have enough talking moments in the films, but I'm pretty sure xNxx
Legalas- ENTP or ESTJ, I'm leaning more to ENTP because his high Ne, like the scene where he shield surfs in two towers showing his capability to use things in non traditional ways

Boramir- INFJ he worries a lot about Gondor and says "Gondor needs no king" Ni. Played by Sean Bean so clearly an FJ
Elrrond- ESTJ
Arwin- ENTJ daughter of Ellrond so would naturally have some authority, and when the Nazgul are chasing her she swears
Saruman- ISFP places his values on things a lot, is very practical and realistic, like when he tells Ganndalf we must join Saron, and says to Aragon that he will never be crowned king in the extended edition
Andy Serkis' character (I can't remember it's name sorry)- ISTJ
King Thoeden- ENFP definitely an extrovert and he cries in the scene after his son's funeral
Eomer- ISFP "I would cut off your head dwarf if it stood but a little higher from the ground" Se, the first thing he pays attention to is Gimley's size so he focuses on details
Eowin- ESTP wants to go out and fight but can't because she's a woman
Galadrel- ESTJ and very much so, in the scene where Fredo tries to give her the ring she goes crazy and mad then swore at him
Denathor- ISFJ obsessed with his power and picks a favourite son
Faremire- ISTP very similar to Pippan which is why they bond so well
Grima Wormtongue- ESFP knows how to manipulate Theodin and gets around from Rohan to Isengard well so probably an extrovert

I have watched the movies a ton of times and have my opinions on it. My typings will be based off the movies not the books.

Frodo- INFP Early on he has some extroverted qualities, but compared to Mary and Pippin he is very withdrawn within his own emotions. Frodo is an extreme Fi uses for sure which ends up getting to him because he is so focused on his personal battle with the ring that he neglects Sam for a little bit.

Sam- ISFJ Sam is one of the best examples of an ISFJ in fiction in my opinion. He is very nostalgic, loyal, simple, empathetic, and is very wise based off the stories he grew up with.

Marry- ENTP or ISTP Marry is definitely a Ti based on the decisions. I view him as an Ne personally based off how well he reads situations versus Pippin and he has a strong rebellion side to him.

Pippin- XSFP Pippin has very strong Fi and Se, but many overlook Pippin in the LOTR as a person who just doesn’t think and ruins everything, but that isn’t true. You see Pippin trick Tree Beard knowing how he will internally react. Pippin also made many spontaneous choices that saved lives because he is a good person that just so happens to use high Fi and Se decision making in an immature way.

Gandalf- INTP or INTJ Gandalf is definitely a strong thinker which is easy to see with his conversations with Aragorn. I do think Gandalf is more of an INTP despite what many think because he tends to be more loose in his decision making versus someone like Elrond. Many people think Ni is the visionary, but Ne is too and Gandalf has more of an Ne visionary with looking at multiple options and trying to accept multiple outcomes, a good example is the decision of Moria. Gandalf also while he is a leader he tends to prefer to think internally with logical principles versus someone like Sauraman who focused on the power in the real world and wanted it. Gandalf is talks about talks about death and evil in ways that seem more Ti to me. For example when he tells Frodo about what the ring will do to him and why he can’t take it.

Aragorn- INFJ Aragorn is a very emotional person who personifies the idea of a destiny. Aragorn his whole life had run away from who he was which was anti Si in a way, but by LOTR he has one goal that he does everything possible to get, a happy life with a family. Aragorn in a leader but it is much more of a Fe leader versus someone like a Te leader.

Arwen- ENFX Very future focused and clearly is a decision maker off emotions. I am leaning to ENFP because of the Fi moments she has.

Elrond- INTJ He has the power of forsight and is one of the best examples of an INTJ. Elrond is very strict and cold, but does it because he cares about his daughter and middle earth so dearly. He is very anti Si based on what happened with the ring not being thrown in to the fire in front of him. Elrond is very concrete in his logic and out of all the character has one future that he chases versus Gandalf who knows the goal but seems to be ok with any way to get there.

Sauraman- INTJ He has high Ni and Te for sure based on his quest for power(Ni) and collectively ruling the land(Te) in the interest of his own personal views(Fi). He was better at confronting Gandalf in the moment based on his power(Se), but once cornered he ignored his surrounding environment in the moment and got killed.(Se)

Legolas- ISFP Loyal to a fault but very honest. He and Gimli have very in the moment reactions that make them great fighters but not the best at negotiating.

Gimli- ESTP Very high Se and makes decisions off internal logic.

Boromir- ESXJ- Kind of the opposite of Aragorn in a way because he at first wants to hold onto what he has and gain power for his father. But Boromir has a good heart in the end and is able to redeem himself after he was lost to the ring.

Theoden- ENTJ Has high Te for sure with his decision of Helms Deep being based off the concrete idea of being able to defend a strong structure versus Aragorn who wanted to face head on and cut the head off the snake. Theoden has high Ni as well with his vision of keeping Rohan safe and uniting the two kingdoms of man.

Eowyn- ISTP She and Marry both have high Ti seen when they join the army because they understand the logic that anyone helps the cause. Eowyn is not a feeler because all of her decisions of serving and fighting are based on the logic of her being able to and supporting the cause. Eowyn doesn’t seem like a high Ne to me but it is possible.

Faramir- INFP maybe a broken ENFJ Faramir is definitely an emotionally strong person who is flawed yet a good person. He seems to very quickly understand the gravitation of the situation which makes me think he is an intuitive unlike his brother who only saw the power of the ring. Borimir also had high Si while Faramir is chasing gratitude which is more Ni or Ne most of the time not always.

Gollum- ISFP with high Ni and very high Fi

Galadriel- INFJ Definitely an Fe equivalent of Elrond.
