I'm a little curious to see how you guys feel about alcohol, so I thought that I would ask a few questions:

1. Do you drink? If not, why?

2. How often do you drink?

3. How old were you when you had your first drink?

4. Do you prefer to drink at parties, in bars, with small groups of friends, or alone?

5. What are your reasons for consuming alcohol?

6. Have you ever "abused" alcohol?

7. What under what circumstances do you drink?

8. What kind of drunk are you? (Happy, mean, depressed, loud etc...)

9. How do you feel around other people when they are drunk? Does it depend on if you are drinking as well?

No, I don't drink alcohol. The most important reason is that I don't like the taste of it. Any drink that I've tried both with and without alcohol tastes better without it. Another reason is I have several alcoholics in my extended family, and I didn't wish to follow in their footsteps or emulate their behavior. I've seen alcohol abuse destroy lots of relationships, and it's been a source of grief to too many people I know for me to treat it like just another thing to drink. And lastly, I don't trust myself with it. I have a very addiction-prone personality and I know if I ever really got into drinking I would have been an alcoholic too and probably either have drunk myself to death or at least into a really bad place in my life, and especially since I'm a single father I'm really glad I didn't.

1. Do you drink? If not, why?
Yes.

2. How often do you drink?
I drink quite regularly but get drunk less so. I would say, since the year began I've been drunk three or four times but have been drinking at least on a weekly basis (I'm a student, lol)

3. How old were you when you had your first drink?
I think maybe 15ish but I didn't start drinking properly until 17.

4. Do you prefer to drink at parties, in bars, with small groups of friends, or alone?
Bars or Parties with small groups. I'm not a fan of clubs, however.

5. What are your reasons for consuming alcohol?
I like the taste. Like I said before, I don't tend to get drunk. Just have a few glasses. That buzz towards the end of those few is pretty nice, too.

6. Have you ever "abused" alcohol?
I'm not sure what this is asking. Binge drinking? There have been a couple of occasions where I have recklessly drunk alcohol.

7. What under what circumstances do you drink?
Social, usually, but if I've got some lying around I might have a lonely drink to accompany a movie or something.

8. What kind of drunk are you? (Happy, mean, depressed, loud etc...)
Happy + loud. Though if something bad has been happening to me recently, I might be more of a sad drunk.

9. How do you feel around other people when they are drunk? Does it depend on if you are drinking as well?
Unless they're aggressive drunks I don't mind it. I think they're funny. Being drunk as well would give it a sense of camaraderie. Some times people get too drunk though and you have to look after them / mop up their sick and that's not so great.

I very rarely drink alcohol. Occasionally, I have a glass of wine or a bit of champagne.
Mostly, I think that alcohol tastes nasty and I won't consume anything that doesn't taste good.
I can take it or leave it, though. Apparently, I don't have an addictive personality and addictions don't run in my family.

1. Do you drink? If not, why?
Not really, I do on occasion when my friends are drinking. I used to drink a lot, but I made a fool of myself and did things that I regret.

2. How often do you drink?
Rarely, every few months or so.

3. How old were you when you had your first drink?
I was 14 and I got completely wasted, blacked out, puked everywhere. I didn't drink again for like 2 years.

4. Do you prefer to drink at parties, in bars, with small groups of friends, or alone?
I prefer to drink with a small group of friends.

5. What are your reasons for consuming alcohol?
To relieve anxiety and/or be more spontaneous with friends.

6. Have you ever "abused" alcohol?
Yes, big time.

7. What under what circumstances do you drink?
Sometimes when I have a date or something, to help get rid of anxiety. But often because my friends are drinking and thats what they want to do.

8. What kind of drunk are you? (Happy, mean, depressed, loud etc...)
Sometimes depressed, sometimes super happy, sometimes mean.. it depends a lot!

9. How do you feel around other people when they are drunk? Does it depend on if you are drinking as well?
I find drunk people are often really annoying and creepy, but if I'm drinking as well I could care less!

1. Do you drink? If not, why?

Yes.

2. How often do you drink?

Most weekends.

3. How old were you when you had your first drink?

15. haha

4. Do you prefer to drink at parties, in bars, with small groups of friends, or alone?

Only at parties, and there has to be more than 5 people there. I'll drink with one close friend, too, if we're trying to have fun.

5. What are your reasons for consuming alcohol?

It reduces inhibitions so socializing and having fun is easier.

6. Have you ever "abused" alcohol?

Once.

7. What under what circumstances do you drink?

Whenever I'm in a situation with friends where it's expected (not peer-pressure, just when we're together trying to have fun).

8. What kind of drunk are you? (Happy, mean, depressed, loud etc...)

If I'm with others, carefree, fun, and happy. If I'm alone for too long I over-think about a person I miss and get depressed.

9. How do you feel around other people when they are drunk? Does it depend on if you are drinking as well?

I feel fine, it's easier to have fun (unless they're hammered). Not really.

This is a fascinating thread actually, it was interesting reading the replies. Not to say that everyone who drinks alcohol is an alcoholic, but some personality types including ESFP's are definately in the risk zone of it.

Alcohol and other drugs are degenerative and will mess up the brain structure for the rest of your life, and you will always risk relapsing. Not to drag this into philosophy, but the american culture now consists of making life better by using drugs and causing sex addiction, bulimia etc. It's just not worth it just to have fun for a few hours, then feeling worthless the next day. I've wasted 7 years on addiction and got nothing in return, I could have spent that time learning something like 5 new languages and becoming the top student of my class. Not to mention, you lose money and alcohol impairs your health.

"Every form of addiction is bad, no matter whether the narcotic be alcohol, morphine or idealism." - Carl jung

P.S: I don't mind that almost everyone in society is addicted to something, less competition for me.

3) Really little...I don't remember, under 13.
4) At bars and with a small group of friends.
5) I like being tipsy, it helps me be less socially awkward and more open. Its also a fun activity to do with people.
6) Yes, but I would say I'm either a heavy social drinker or a functioning alcoholic. Probably the former, it's under control.

9) If I am drinking I love them if not then I hate it.

No, I don't drink. I also don't like the taste. I'd rather drink something super sweet as I am quite addicted to sugar. I also have a worry that I may become an alcoholic if I start, so I will stay sober before anything happens.

If I wasn't so scared of the potential consequences, I probably would drink more. In social groups though I never seem to turn down a possible drink, but then I just take tiny sips and it'll look like I barely touched it. I feel like a total killjoy/wet blanket during those times, so I try not to go to bars with friends.

If I was drunk, I think I would be really wild and all over the place...so no. But sometimes I think the combination of alcohol/sugar just makes me super sleepy, so maybe I would just pass out. I'm probably a lightweight. And the idea of passing out in a room of strangers/acquaintances is soo scary. (This is all my Ni doom and gloom's fault)

I'm a little curious to see how you guys feel about alcohol, so I thought that I would ask a few questions:
All righty then...

1. Do you drink? If not, why?
Not really. I used to be out partying all the time when I was in my late teens and early 20s, but doing it nearly day after day for a few years it eventually got old and pretty boring.

2. How often do you drink?
Once every few months.

3. How old were you when you had your first drink?
14...I had tequila and Coca-Cola.

4. Do you prefer to drink at parties, in bars, with small groups of friends, or alone?
Small group of friends/family and very rarely alone...and by this I mean a beer when watching sports. It isn't like I'm downing a 5th of whiskey by myself.

5. What are your reasons for consuming alcohol?
Um...want to drink some booze.

6. Have you ever "abused" alcohol?
Yes...it was bad. I was never an alcoholic, but I was an extreme binge drinker.

7. What under what circumstances do you drink?
Now I only have a few drinks at family get together's.

8. What kind of drunk are you? (Happy, mean, depressed, loud etc...)
It really depends on a lot of things.

9. How do you feel around other people when they are drunk? Does it depend on if you are drinking as well?
I hate being around drunks. More often than not they're annoying idiots.

1. Do you drink? If not, why?

On occasion, but not really. I only drink when I can afford to pay my drinks, when I'm not tired, and when I'm both in a good mood and good company. I don't want to risk the depressed drunk.

2. How often do you drink?

Very rarely. I get drunk maybe once or twice a year and tipsy not a lot more times.

3. How old were you when you had your first drink?

15. In summer camp, booze offered by the supervisors.

4. Do you prefer to drink at parties, in bars, with small groups of friends, or alone?

The best place to drink is on a team bus after a victory in an away town:laughing: Otherwise, in small groups.

5. What are your reasons for consuming alcohol?

Um, I don't have many, so maybe that's why I drink so little. I do grab a couple drinks when I'm having fun and am relaxed.

6. Have you ever "abused" alcohol?

Abused? How do you mean?

7. What under what circumstances do you drink?

When watching football or out dancing mostly.

8. What kind of drunk are you? (Happy, mean, depressed, loud etc...)

I'm a quiet but happy drunk when I drink. Actually, alcohol only enhances the mood that I already have, so I've had a bad trip a couple times. Which is why I only drink when I know that I'm truly, positively relaxed and happy and there isn't anything lurking in my subconscious to get out.

9. How do you feel around other people when they are drunk? Does it depend on if you are drinking as well?

What other people do is their own thing. If they laugh and share jokes and dance and stuff it's all good. I don't really enjoy pranksters who think they're funny.
