I actually used the search function. There seems to exist a general forum on that, for all communities but I haven't found a thread specifically for INTJs.

What are your favourite movies and series? I love cinema so I'm always interested to learn new interesting titles.

Mine are (in random order):

Films:

2 Days in Paris
The Trip
(with Coogan)
Three Colors
Forrest Gump
American Beauty
Pan's Labyrinth
Office Space
Shame
Toni Erdmann
(a somewhat new discovery. It's very absurd but also psychologically realistic and hilarious. Just incredible)
Match Point

Series:

Black mirror - the thing about Black Mirror is that it's very unequal. There are episodes that are simply unwatchable to me. However about half of all the episodes are just masterpieces, incredibly well-made, deep and realistic.
The Office (British version)

Star Trek IX - Insurrection

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Titus

Midsummer Night's Dream (1999?)

The Silence of the Lambs

Hannibal

Star Trek TOS
Star Trek TNG
Babylon 5
The Expanse
Orange is the New Black
13 Reasons Why

^^^ I second the Matrix, the earlier American Pie movies, American Beauty, Interstellar, and Mr. Robot.

I'm not sure what makes a film or series "for INTJs", but I tend to like the ones that have darker themes, pose profound questions about human nature and/or end up being controversial when they hit a good proportion of the general public. I also like stupid comedies on occasion. (The above already exemplify this). And music dramas.

Other movies:

The Virgin Suicides
Black Swan
Fight Club
Se7en
Tarantino movies (e.g. Hateful 8, Inglourious Basterds, Kill Bill, Death Proof)
A Clockwork Orange
The Rules of Attraction
Ex Machina
The Terminator series
The Runaways
Team America: World Police

TV (don't watch as much as I used to):

Fringe
Blindspot
The Affair
South Park
The Big Bang Theory
Lucifer
Weeds

How has no one mentioned Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad? Both incredible series, with some prominent INTJ characters.

I would also heavily recommend Peaky Blinders. It's a Netflix original series about Thomas Shelby, and his masterminding his gang's rise to power in post WWI England. Thomas is an INTJ, and there's at least one other INTJ character with a decent amount of screen time.

House of Cards is also excellent.

As for movies, Good Will Hunting will always be one of my all time favorites.

.
Game of Thrones:
In my case, I didn't know the books before the TV series came out. That series was massively popular instantaneously and an ISFJ told me about it. It's also watched by a lot of people who didn't use to be geeks. That tends to spoil things for me. It's like ICQ(90s) is geeky, but facebook is cool.

I don't do popular and I don't do what ISFJs tell me.

Sometimes that's a mistake, I nearly missed LoTR that way... on the other hand, I don't like LoTR that much in the long run.... I mean, it's cool, but it's not life-changing.

I'm decades behind current trends in popular culture. I relate more to literature and music from the 60s, 70s and 80s and people who were already grown up during that time.I refuse to listen to any contemporary pop music, all those sluts and gangsters of today's pop music don't do anything for me.

As for TV, I guess I don't like the interruption caused by something like whatsit.. Game of Thrones ... I'm not going to suddenly change my routine just to watch some popular TV show.

I think I have an eclectic taste in movies. Some of my favourites (no judgement) include:

Blade Runner
Back to the Future
The Mummy
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Casino Royale
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The Empire Strikes Back
Watchmen
Kill Bill
Inglorious Basterds
Office Space
Inception
Planet of the Apes (the original)

And I watch all kinds of tv shows. Breaking Bad, The Office, Black Mirror, Stranger Things, Archer, Seinfeld, Fraser, The Simpsons, Dexter, Outlander (okay that one's embarrassing), Firefly, Sex and the City. Anything funny or with good writing that keeps me coming back for the next episode. The first season of Orange is the New Black was all right, but that show went majorly downhill. As most shows do, I suppose.

FG. You are so girly it makes me want to protect you (I mean like a sister/child). But what'd you do when youd close your eyes and all youd see was those real battle scenes? Many of us have tried the blanket. Many drink. Many war veterans are in all kinds of treatments. Many trade the ultraintense stock markets to think about smt else. Many many so many.

Those films are kindergarden to the chaos of real combat. Why not watch something supraficial? Like some comedy or say natural geo. Why did we ever, in the 1st place want to tangent killing? Fucking intj default settings

#14 ·
I can easily believe that real war isn't fun and I don't ever watch war movies that glorify it.
Yep, I'm aware of veterans' situation and I think it's one of the most pressing social issues for warmongering countries.

No personal context. I was just wondering forreal, why do we as humans want to see that? I truly cant grasp how that works.

ps. do you like my profile type mistyping clownery? I see too many intjs here, so thought to balance the sheet a little. Others are permitted clownery so why wouldnt we all just joke

Sorry to be such a CreepyStalker™ of your posts, @Catwalk , but... who am I kidding, I'm totes a CreepyStalker™. XD

Just wanted to pop in here and say HOLY SHIT GHOST IN THE SHELL IS MY FAVORITE ANIME SERIES OF ALL TIME!!! wugh0uhg820ht03q7ryg70heguhgd OMGOMGOMGOmgomgomgomgomgogmogmgomgogmogmogm :exterminate:

Guuuuuuurl CattyCat if you liked the movie holy shit YOU MUST watch both of the series. Series 1 and Series 2. Much better than the movies (and I liked the movies fine). I would go as far as to say GiTs Season 1 + 2 are my favorite shows of any sort of all time. So many feelz. They're also based off of an original manga, too! Haven't had the chance to read the manga yet but it's on my list. I've heard there is a lot of fan service in the manga. X)

Also lmao ANCIENT ALIENS YESSSSssssss. Nod of the head to X-Files too .... A Most Legit TV Series. <3

I love this thread. I'm currently visiting with family so I don't have enough time to sit down and really think on this, but one that no one has mentioned yet (that I saw, at least) that I wanted to throw out there was The Machinist, a film starring Christian Bale.

#22 ·
I was actually going to mention that one! but

already mentioned Fight Club and Black Swan, so it seemed a bit redundant at that point.

#28 ·
ninjahitsawall. I did not take that into account. How much can we tolerate watching. Like a self maximum test. Very interesting
Same reason I like my food spicy. Gotta keep pushing your own boundaries, c'est la vie. :ball:

The how one'd handle a unpleasent reality resumes only to preparation (practical, emotional, social all of it really)
Not sure what you mean. Yes, it's a mental preparation type thing (hence why I brought up dreaming -- that's thought to be its purpose, at least for the bad and vivid dreams)

#29 ·
ninjahitsawall. Mate I love spicy food! The more intense, the better. We used to play a lot of poker while watching the jackass series from MTV with my boys when we were in our teens. The one that won had a whiskey shot than one that was last drank tabasco. The girls hated that the poker and MTV, cause they couldnt get attention. Sometimes I won, sometimes I lost, and even being a fan of spicy stuff, man was that tabasco nasty without a pizza. Nostalgy

Now I find weird that Im pushing my own boundaries literally all the time. Maybe its cause of the enneagram. Cause I have quite a lot of INTJ normal life friends who do NOT like spicy food/intensity/the extreme/breaking limits etc. I then again admire them capable of being more chill. I couldnt do that. Ever.

F.e. At 21 y-o I got a blue yamaha R1 from 2007 in 2007. My my did that thing ran like a thunder. Took a few girlmates to rides too, gosh did they got excited to become more after those rides. Entps, enfjs (as long as they had Fe so that I could hear they screming they were most welcome to hold on that bike) you name it. After that I used to rent all the time a race tuned slicks tyred gallardo I liked back then at a racetrack. I have an entp stepbrother that newer grew old so you can only imagine the end of that and few more cars. But there were the insurance companies so no worries.

After those things a family friend took me gliding (forgot bikes and cars in a second, fell in love with that, used do anything to co-pilot those things), after that got excited about thriathlon iron version. Took a bicycle in 2011 and rode 2k km europe east to west just to train for that iron. I used to suck at swimming big time. Even though I had ok results in cooper tests I was one of the worst swimmers in the milly tests at age 19. People wanted to throw me stuff into water after 200m as they were sure Id die drowning. Couldnt keep my legs in up. Then someone told me to swim just with my hands 1st and concentrate fully at those legs, ching, problem solved almost by itself. At the beginning of last year I gathered a small volunteer team from our company to hit the top of kilimanjaro. Those guys will make the attempt with a guide team this very summer. I also wanted to visit the both poles too, but as this sickeness has made me get tired from even pushing my wheelchair around, my attention is more where to buy a doog pneumatic electric one instead of cool expeditions.

I dont usually care that much about pointless travelling, but as for the food, thailand and india are the best place there are, unless you get the jackiepottie of being food poisoned. Fe. The thaifood over there is so delicious in comparation to what they get to our tables in London (&the rest of EU), its actually worth the massively uncomfortable long flight.

Now a little more deep. Being a strong believer of actionable info, Id say many Intj may like watching films in order to gather info. I find this motivation great. The problem with that info is that is has been intentionally manipulated to slightly differ from reality and is therefore almost rubbish. Yes, it entertaines but unfortunately it doesnt offer actionable info. For example trading right. Knowing few this type of business owners in NY, Chicago, LDN, Frankfurt, Paris, Tokio, etc. I have not even once heard any of them mention a film that would reflect the spectrum of consistently profitable trading. Why? Cause all quality softcore and hardcore info is not public. If it were public, Im 1000% sure intjs would live lifes way beyond the worthyness of the films industry attention.

I think all intjs have a notion about them being different. Also I think most intjs have no real perception what their imagination is able to achieve. Also I think intjs have the real intentions to make things work well - even perfectly. But I personally suffer greatly that particular difference is not supported by anyone. Its like a sadness thing. Like the real sentiment of sadness/loss. My potentialy false assumption is no one recently loved enough a group of individuals to support their style. I have several guys and few women too in normal life I've given an advice or a couple when forced to do so. I tried to love the intjs the best way I know how here too, by offering systems that worked for me. And some pathetic advice every now and then.

The thing is, I believe intjs have been so hurt before, no one around here dares to believe me. So my mission seemingly is useless. But if one single intj believed, then jumping up the fibo sequence could be possible. As.. Im literally a little unhealthy to lead anything perhaps someone else could take that role. I mean. All of you know the personalities. Thats a great start, but its only under 5% of what is necesarry to take a stand. I have noticed many know mbti pretty well, but do ppl use it efficiently? Catwalk is one person that Im sure has the competence to efficiently pull it off. But how many more ppl with her probably daily flow of cases. I know money counts too. Ive told in previous posts about Al Brooks. Those of you who use trading as atm.s why not help ppl who lack cash for their initiatives? Im not talking here to do charity, but to help them use that knowledge to make it that way. Sure many more ways to generate cash exists too, share them, become friends on to another, care for eachother in pragmatic forms. Participate, share and generate real well intentioned unity. Even protection

I dont know who will start those greater things, but Ill certainly die trying

I watched Transporter 3 tonight. I like action movies. The Jason Bourne, John Wick type stuff. And, of course, James Bond (Daniel Craig).

Other movies I like that haven't been mentioned:
Classics:
2001: A Space Odyessy (1968) [Best Sci Fi movie ever. Apparently HAL has been typed an ISTJ, lol]
The Thomas Crown Affair (1968 version)
The Usual Suspects (1995) [Main character is an INTJ]

Guilty Pleasures:
Wall Street (1987) -- I'm always impressed yet amused by the case-closed conviction of ENTJs.
Mr & Mrs Smith (2005) -- silly, but the hyper competent career couple playing house to such a domestic degree makes me laugh. Some type Jane Smith as an INTJ -- I can see that.

@RexMaximus I also really like Good Will Hunting (1997). I still think about that "I chose the wrench bc..." line from time to time.

I don't watch much T.V. but I think Breaking Bad, as Rex mentioned, is the quintessential INTJ show. With the main character developing from an enneagram 5 chem teacher to an enneagram 8 badass, he's like two INTJs, then there is Gus who is another.

I'm only finally getting around to watching Mr Robot (as others have mentioned) this summer. The comparison between an unhealthy INTJ & an unhealthy ENTJ is great.

Me too. I actually just watched John Wick 2 tonight. Loved it and hope there's a third. I really enjoy action characters who have that incredibly tight focus in the moment and massive amounts of willpower like he does. Daniel Craig too. ISTP for both I would say.

Mr & Mrs Smith (2005) -- silly, but the hyper competent career couple playing house to such a domestic degree makes me laugh. Some type Jane Smith as an INTJ -- I can see that.
I really need to watch this. It seems like something I'd enjoy, and I remember you mentioning it before.

Robin William's speech about finding the one you love and how perfect that is gets to me every time.

I've enjoyed Mr. Robot too. I don't think I've finished the second season yet because I got distracted during the school year.

War for the Planet of the Apes is an incredible movie. I would recommend that you all go see it. The emotions that it elicited from me were incredible. The Apes feel so incredibly human, yet you can also understand the humans' perspective. (The words "this is a holy war" literally come out of the Colonel's mouth at one point, lol). There were several incredible character moments.

The season premier of GoT was excellent as well.

I feel like all the Stanley Kubrick movies are ideal for an INTJ mind. The psychological depth is quite intriguing and it's fascinating to watch the characters be dominated by their environments in his films.

- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- A Clockwork Orange
- The Shining
- Dr Strangelove: OR How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
- Lolita (1962)
- Full Metal Jacket
- Barry Lyndon
- Paths of Glory
- Eyes Wide Shut
- Spartacus (1960)
- The Killing
- Killer's Kiss
- Fear and Desire

All INTJs should watch those films, at least the first nine that I mentioned.
