On a scale of 1-10, how good would you be at being a politician?

Lol, everyone's scared.

Come on guys. Pretend politicians can be good guys. I know you've been burned.

Don't just select a low answer to distance yourself from the politician stereotypical smarminess.

Someone's gotta govern and represent. Could be you.

Do you think you'd be liked? Hated?
That you'd serve well, effectively?
Could you make alliances, win over minds and hearts?
Stay honest? Get eaten up in the machine? Both.
Do you think you could keep your seat? Inspire a movement?
Do you think you'd have something to offer the place?
Do you think you could stay committed to a principle? Carry a mantle? Forward.
Do you think you'd have the energy to fight?
Do what needs to be done..

Could you win over the common masses. Could you communicate a message with eloquence or flair?
Could you rip the oppositions legs?

Either be really good or really bad.

I don't lie, cheat, steal... so yeah, I'd be a failure as a politician
Yeah, I figured that's what selecting one meant for ya.

Well, you just said you don't lie..and all humans lie.

So, you might be one step closer than you think.

I have my "moments"

  • That I can rally people. Be really charimatic, and lead people. Win the hearts. (I'd make a fantasic president)
  • A gave a phenomenal speech. (I'd make a fantasic president)
  • Be super diplomatic and resolve the conflicts (I'd make a fantasic president)
  • I was honest and things went great (I'd make a fantasic president)
  • I made some hard decisions and things went great (I'd make a fantasic president).
  • I managed to laugh in the face of pressure and danger and things went great (I'd make a fantasic president).
  • I was fake and things and made it through alive and things went great, but I had no choice! 😫. (I'd make a meh president)
  • I botch that speech. (Uh nope)
  • I accidentally said the wrong word and everything blows up. (Uh nope)
  • I was lost my cool and escalated everything (Uh nope)
  • I was too honest and everything went to crap. (Uh nope)
  • I was too fake and everything went to crap (Uh nope)
  • I was too naive and everything went to crap (Uh nope)
  • I was overwhelmed with pressure and things spiraled down (Uh nope)

I don't think holding political office touches on any of my strong points whatsoever. I'm also not very knowledgeable about politics in general, which is something I should probably remedy since it affects everyone.

But I couldn't handle the stress, public-facing aspects, and sheer amount of hours being a politician would require.

I might be OK as a lower level local politician cause I already do a lot of listening to a big group of people's views and trying to get them actioned, and I'm pretty good at challenging people in authority when they aren't doing what they should be, but also that'd probably mean I wouldn't get very far in the ladder as there's an element of social hierarchy, well, anywhere.

I interviewed for a position with an MP before and I was excited to be able to help constituents but then I was told pretty much word for word "the aim is to get the MP re-elected no matter what, and you do what you need to to get that done" and I withdrew my application because I realised politics wasn't for me. So I might be a good politician in terms of helping people, but I wouldn't get far enough in the political realm to actually make a difference

Considering the fact that I'm not neurotypical. I would probably be disqualified from ever being decent in the political realm.

I'm not quite full of shit enough to make it work.

I have no desire of being a politican. That in itself would make the job boring enough and not motivated to do it. So I say a 4 maybe. If the job requires dealing out misinformation, then make it a 2 instead (I don't think I'm a good liar, personally). If I put some effort into it (leadership skills), then maybe a +1 lol.

Well, they need to get elected in order to as a team help anyone don't they? I guess the logistical parts are not for you.

Of campaign effectiveness, and the like. That might be quite fun for me. And I don't necessarily read that as lying or being dishonest of necessary.

Maybe that was the game though. I don't know. I haven't been near enough politics. Or what might have been underhandedly communicated to you, there.

I wouldn't be able to handle the constant PR work and fighting off mainstream media and negative public sentiment.
So many are all too happy to contribute to the negative public sentiment and crap on public figures, but could never take the heat themselves.

I've always noted as much.

And then wonder if they've ever fashioned themselves as that public role or figure even once. In their heads

Personally, I'd give myself an eight.

It's very much not my thing. But I think give me a couple years experience, clarity on the landscape and I could do it pretty well. I probably would not entirely enjoy it though.

Or who knows. Maybe could be fun if I manage to make a game of it and find successful strategies. Treat like a big problem solving game. Focus on a certain aim.

to think of it. When I've sought positions of influence professionally, it's never been a desire to be in the position as much as it was.....desire for competent leadership when one wasn't present.

I don't like the spotlight. But I'm good at the being broadly competent part. And learning.

So I think. It would be I'd be pretty good but I wouldn't like it.

Some parts would be exhausting. Unless I could come up for a strategy for that. Which is doable. Probably. To an extent.

Meh.

You could run for the GOP--they don't have any standards for behavior. But you'd have to be willing to hate on trans people, immigrants, and pretty much any other group that the party could opportunistically prey upon.

If you were willing to do that though--to publicly hate on the most vulnerable groups in society, it wouldn't matter if you fucked porn stars while married or embezzled, or anything really.

But if you were to run under a more left party then you would probably be held to standards that maybe even approach unreasonable.

Understanding different points of view, and coming up with enticing win/wins, prioritizing, organizing, decision making, balancing needs, speeches I'm very good with and would probably just get better at as I grew more familiar with the landscape, those would be quite easy. Played strengths. Remaining principled in the face of pressure (E1, would be harder appearing not to which may be an issue, as i'm not good at humoring what i don't agree with -i can a bit, but I mean it's a trainable ) or being able to withstand or brush off public hate campaigns. Easy Fe blind superpower. advantage - I mean these would be strengths. I might need to get used to a friendlier mug, but women who smile don't get taken seriously in politics so it might also benefit from that fact.

The stretch would be some of the social things but I'm a good delegator. I wanna say yeah the stretch would be the stuff you're better at, of humoring and such - though I guess it can be a detriment and benefit in different moments. i was surprised how many past presidents were INTJs.

Do all have to be full of shit. Even in a hypothetical. One wonders why the public adores people so full of shit as to vote them in office.

maybe cuz they're full of shit themselves
