Hi everyone,

I'm an INTJ. I've got BSc in Marketing and MBA in Management. I've spent 12 years working in sales and operations. I've finally reached the very top couple of years ago but it wasn't as what it's cracked up to be.

People may or may not know I'm an INTJ because I've made some adjustments in order to fit myself in business settings. But being an INTJ in business is hard. Although I enjoy business meetings and talking to people in business settings, I don't like to do social networking, hanging out after work, small chit-chats, etc. I'd rather go home and spend time with my family.

I notice in this forum that not many of you INTJs are in business (which now I know the reason why). And INTJ being a small percentage of the population, no wonder I feel like I'm the odd ones out there.

I'm thinking about getting back to Undergraduate school (part time) to study Business Law. Now the million dollar question is whether Business Law is a good fit for an INTJ?

What do you guys think? Any INTJ lawyers out there?

Cheers,
Berry

From what I understand, law has a degree of networking involved too for getting business referrals. Although you probably have enough existing contacts to make that a minor issue or to get hired on full time somewhere. I have an interest in business and business law as well. Hearing this has me reconsidering getting an MBA and focusing on my other plans instead. I hope others have more insight to share with you. Good luck!

You are VERY correct on that....I LOVE it and do it on a forum for a hobby. However, it seems the ISTJs have the ability to catalog law far better than I do. If that makes sense.

My career involves setting up processes and proceedures...which is along the lines of law and engineering really. I LOVE it.

That's what I'm worried too. Being an attorney definitely needs to do lots of business meetings (no problem here) and social networking (oh God no).

But I figured being an INTJ has its advantage in law as compared to other types. The only disadvantage would be that socializing thing. My contacts would definitely help and I figured that I just should get a couple of networks as my tipping point to get me around. I hope that's effective.

Thanks & good luck to you too....

The things that I worry, besides the social networking thing, is whether I can make myself to debate/confront people openly. I used to debate/confront people openly. But being in business for quite some time, I've made myself to be more diplomatical. Although I consider myself as a peaceful guy, inherently, I like to debate.

I think INTJ is able to see from many different perspectives and find a creative solution to the problem. That is something that's gonna be good for law, I guess.

As a side note, I really enjoy watching movies about law and/or business (some people look at me in a funny way when I mention that). At least the interest is there, I just need to check whether I have what it takes to make it in that area.

I'm in law school and a large proportion of my classmates are INTJs. I think you'd fit in fine.

I would advise going to law school instead of an undergraduate program. Generally speaking, undergraduate programs on their own are practically useless. It's best to go for the actual JD, which would allow you to practice law.

@Peter. I did couple of years ago. Although it was running okay, I thought that the scope of the business was too small and the potential of the industry is not so big either. I called it quits because I just lost interest.

I guess being an INTJ has something to do with it. Since then, I am in constant lookout of any other new business opportunity for me to start again, but this time (knowing myself better), I'm gonna find the one that will keep me interested for long.

Meanwhile, law seems to be more suitable to my type. Mix that with my experience in business might be a good combination. Who knows?

@Slider. Agree. That's what I think. I can always mix and match business with law later on. No problem there.

I'm a lawyer. It's a mixed bag. We're good at legal analysis, writing briefs and formulating strategy. However, it takes the average INTJ a tremendous amount of painful skill practice to obtain the showmanship skills to excel in front of a jury. As for negotiating deals, we have the analysis skills but not so much the people reading skills. Networking skills are also usually lacking, but not all lawyers have to attract clients. They may work for a firm that has clients or a corporation or government agency where the employer is the client.

The last thing this miserable world needs more of is lawyers. No offense meant to present company, but I hate lawyers. Not all lawyers, just that kind of lawyer. You know the type. When the word "lawyer" is used in a derogatory fashion, it's referring to that kind of lawyer.

I H.A.T.E. internationalist bankers and internationalist lawyers.

@Synister: I know my limits. I don’t think I’m good at politics. I even suck at office politics.

@Thorgar: Good to know an INTJ lawyer. Things that you mentioned about what INTJ are strong at, I was kindda guessed those. It’s good to have my analysis confirmed by someone from the “inside”.
I’m in sales for over 8 years before moving on to operations so at least I have developed my presentation, negotiation and people reading skills. I consider myself not bad in those (at least in sales sense). I don’t know if they are the same specific skills that would be required as lawyer (I guess adjustments are necessary). Besides, I’m interested in business law (so I can synergize my experience in business).
It’s just the networking skills that I dread the most. How have you been holding up so far?
@Iggy: I won’t become a lawyer for another 4 years or more. So no need to worry about that now.
