My sister once told me that Hermione was INFJ, my sister's type, and I retorted that Hermione's more of a thinker. I concluded after a while that I believed she was ISTJ, due to me being an ISTJ and greatly relating to her, because of what I read about ISTJs, and because of this picture and more pictures I saw: http://images.sodahead.com/polls/000284906/polls_ISTJ_4929_436487_answer_6_xlarge.gif

We both correct people and I'm known for being a "know-it-all" a lot. Working on our research project this year, people call me over to check the spelling and look over their outlines for them. Also, like how Ron likes to copy off her homework, my friend is always asking me to do her work for her. I really do relate with Hermione!

Do you believe she's ISTJ or INFJ? If not those types, is there any type you think she is? Please explain, too, so I can get an understanding! Thanks!

She's an ESTJ by cognitive functions.

Definitely an XSTJ.

E or I: It's difficult to tell because we don't know where she draws her energy. She seems to be comfortable alone with her books, but also doesn't hesitate to be involved in a group setting.
S: Her sensing preference is clear to me. Very observant of details and able to clearly see how to use them to her (and the group's) advantage in situations.
T: Some argue that she shows emotions and therefore is a feeler. I disagree. I'd argue that her thinking preference is her most obvious. Just because she can be empathetic and has feelings doesn't make her a feeler. Very logically inclined.
J: Organizes outwardly.

I've only seen the first few movies, but she seems like a thinker to me. I think a lot of actors/actresses just carry that with them in whatever role, and become typecast as it. Like Lucy Liu. I think Watson is probably a thinker, though I have never seen her interviewed, or in any other movie.

I think she is ISTJ rather than ESTJ because of function order. Si Te Fi Ne or Te Si Ne Fi. I think her Fi is pretty strong at times, more so than Ne (which she does use on occasion - just perhaps not as often). And I also think her Si is stronger than her Te. I could be wrong though.

In any case she is most likely an xSTJ.

Hermione doesn't really project Ni.

She studies like an Si user. She absorbs every little fact and sees how she can implement it. If Hermione was an Ni user, her thought process would be very different.

An Ni gets a rough framework and makes this giant smorgasbord of connections with it. An Ni doesn't have the exact right information at the right time, but they have a framework that's eerily similar. It's why Ni users can generally do new things effortlessly. Because it's like we've done it before.

It's not the same with an Si user. Their understanding is more of a database instead of a flowchart. And that's how Hermione is. She's a giant database with a wealth of information on various topics that oddly happens to be exactly perfect for the situation. There's almost no guessing or framework with Hermione. Either she knows it or she doesn't.

About Hermione...

Hmm, JK Rowling is an INFJ, and she said she based Hermione on herself but with a little "exaggeration," which is why I think Hermione's an INFJ.

Yes, she does come off as bossy and Te over Fe at the beginning but ONLY at the beginning.

?Books, and cleverness? There are more important things: friendship, and bravery.?

Proves she's Fe over Te.

INFJs come third on the list of smartest MBTI types. I'm an INFJ myself, I took a certificate for outstanding mathematical and logical thinking. It's possible that INFJs might seem as Te over Fe.

~~~
Now, I don't know how many are basing this on the movies but here's some proof from the book:
Ron: ?Never heard of it.?
Hermione: ?Well, of course you haven't. I've only just started it.?
Ron: ?And how many members do you have??
Hermione: ?Well, if you two join, three.?
Hermione totally strikes me as an NF for this other reason, the diplomat Hermione. She's The Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare starter, so NF-like.
Another reason is Hermione's "skin hunger," hasn't anyone ever noticed the massive amount of hugs she gives per book/movie? I don't know, but I do suggest that such need for touching your loved ones is a Fe trait.
Last thing, introversion. Now this is quite well-known, INFJs are often mistaken for extroverts, and are the most popular introverts of all. Maybe her being an INFJ is what confuses anyone who tries to determine whether she's extroverted or introverted.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken. :)
You act like friendship and bravery couldn't be the product of Fi. It's a sense of righteousness from within, not external.
Second, MBTI has nothing to do with intelligence. Just forget about that altogether.
I read her as an energetic INTP with a strong sense of loyalty.
Where do you see auxiliary Ne in her? 'Cause I don't.
I see her as some kind of an Anti-Luna, who is an INTP. While Luna believes in things that could be proven, Hermione only believes in what is already proven. She relies on her books most. The written word. The facts. She's certainly Te, not Ti. That's probably why Hermione had some conflicts with Luna, or her beliefs at least. Her attitude to Luna's beliefs also reminds me a lot of her attitude to Divination. She just need proofs that something is the way it is, she needs to understand it by facts, and when she can't see any, she doesn't like the idea of it.
I believe she is an ESTJ like most people seem to do. ISTJ could be possible, as well. It's hard to say, but I think her Te is way stronger than her Si, though it's quite good developed as well.
NTPs aren't always goofy. Some of them are so serious they get 'tunnel vision.'
Being goofy/eccentric is the signature style of Ne. It's usually what causes people to be attracted to them.
I don't see any NTP traits in Hermione at all. In fact, Snape criticises Hermione for never going past her textbooks. An NTP would be criticised for defying their textbook and making it all up as they go along.
