How do you think enneatype nine colors your isfp? Please let me know! Thanks :)

I am pretty sure I am a 9w1 foremost. It colors me as a nice fellow who will do a lot of things or agree a lot with people on the exterior even though I may not in reality. This can lead to indignation of my first function introverted feeling if I agree outloud with someone who I don't agree with. It's hard for a lot of people to see the true emotions underneath sometimes, and it feels like you lose a part of yourself if you don't express an opinion sometimes. Though it feels worth it to do this for the sake of harmony for small things or I am not sure what my opinion is anyways.

Also, sometimes I feel like I don't even know how I feel about a situation unless I actually experience it, so it's hard to have opinions about things as a 9 ISFP. I have to try and see something out to develop an opinion or make a decision. Or it takes time for me from my other functions to make a firm decision whether by writing about it and making connections in a note-book or a pro-con list or doing research. It doesn't come easy to have an opinion because I've been burned before for basing them on not enough evidence or reflection. We are generally happy if things seem to be in harmony foremost and the research and all this isn't usually necessary if I feel OK with myself or people. It isn't my preferred thing to do unless there's a problem or a feeling I can't quite ignore/ express/accept. Sometimes really good poetry comes out of this from me. A lot of my good stuff comes from the idea of relationships or expressing tensions or loneliness or uncertainty.

We are very happy to be flattered, and I'll tell you I love it even though sometimes I may hide it or appear modest. It really boasts us! It makes my day if it happens and seems sincere. Often we feel kind of unimportant or in the background, but this can motivate us to do cool things. Unfortunately it's usually kind of temporary as a perceiver because our mind gets satisfaction starting new things or thinking new thoughts.

In a group, I feel like I can go along with people and a lot of different activities as a 9 unless there's tension in a group...that's the bottom line for me. Being cool and having fun. Pressure kind of makes me nervous and doubtful...to the bad part of a six....fear controlling you. Or go to do cool things as a 3 if we are just having fun and things seem in harmony.

I'm a 9w1 too, and literally everything you just said applies to me too.

I don't know all that much about enneagram, but I would guess that the ISFP 9's contribute more to the push-over and invisible stereotypes of ISFP, whereas ISFP 4's contribute more towards the quirkiness? I personally have never considered myself quirky in any way, but I completely relate to the push-over-ness and invisibility (which is why any compliment can make my day).

Feel free to correct me - I know I'm over generalizing, and like I said, I don't really know what I'm talking about!

9w1 s have a bit more of a fear of embarrassing themselves which can strain creativity if you let it. We aren't as quirky or artistic most of the time probably. Sometimes I find I can be quirky, but it isn't usually my typical way. 9's are usually adaptable and cool if they feel like a part of the whole or at least accepted.

4 are a bit more different, but they feel depressed or unappreciated too but probably for different reasons. They embrace being different and creative and authentic perhaps. I don't totally understand them, but that's what I've read in this cool book I bought recently about enneagram. There's another 4 thread here...let's read it...I haven't yet.

As an isfp 9, I try to have cool bumper stickers on my car that aren't offensive. They are cool and colorful with a message that's just kind of positive or not too annoying. I have a band bumper-stickers (Maritime; Don't Blame me, I Voted for Richard Bucker; Don't Mind Control, a Joan of Arc sticker) a restaurant bumper-sticker(Comet, Slow Food), and a Montana Big Sky bumper-sticker. These are kind of my tattoos in a way...they're nice and pleasant ones with color and not cliche or offensive phrases. I thought this could be a concrete way to show a 9w1 ISFP.

I haven't spent a whole lot of time looking into enneagram types, but lately I've been trying to read up on them more. I seem to test about even as 9 or 7. . . there's usually 0.3 difference in scores each time I've taken the test. I tested most recently as 9w8, 7w8, 9w1. I can relate to both descriptions of the 9 and 7.

Anyway, @shykind and @pumpkin pie your descriptions were helpful, so thank you :)

^^Glad to help you out! I get different results from the test on here myself. I get two or six usually (these could be part of my tri-type). The way I learned I was a 9 was from this book I picked up and they have a check-list of characteristics of each type. I am not sure what I am beyond the 9 with tri-type...I have to look more into that.

I'm an ISFP 9w8. Something I noticed about my 8 wing, is inwardly I have a tendency to rebel. I can refuse a certain way of doing things at first glance simply because it felt forced on me. I have to feel like I appear to be in control of myself and environment. I don't have a desire to control or lead, but I like to appear like I could if that makes sense..I lose my peace of mind when I can see myself just going along to get along(can seem insincere)..though its a huge habit and sometimes people need someone who'll just go along with what they want to do sometimes..all in moderation I suppose.

But yea I think the cognitive functions Fi, Se, or Ni can explain certain 9 attributes. It definitely makes sense to me that ISFP's are commonly 9's(as well as 4's...I actually relate a lot to 4's in certain ways..mostly the detachment issues).

I can relate to what you're saying here, because if something is forced on me, I feel like I'm being controlled, and that's the last thing that I want. I can remember, especially when I was younger, times when I refused to do something for no reason other than it felt forced upon me. Thank you, this was helpful!

YAY, I'm also an ISFP 9w8. I completely agree with everything you said, sub_liminal. I have always been rebellious too when I felt controlled by others or pushed to do something. When I was younger, I also had an explosive temper....my 8 wing is the only thing which might explain this trait of mine. I finally learned to control my anger when I was about 16 or 17. Around that time I started reflecting more on my actions and their consequences. Now I get sad, weepy, and apologetic when I so much as kill a spider. I'll start thinking about how killing it will affect it's family and crazy things like that.

I was going to reply in this thread but I have no idea what to write. Sometimes I find it really hard to organize my thoughts or articulate them in a clear manner (my thoughts can be very muddy as I tend to think in a non-linear way and it's just hard to find where the heads and tails are :p).

however my MOTM interview answer covers most of this :p

Dont fully understand this enneagram stuff. Mostly just the #x# format. I scored evenly high as a 9 and a 5. Does that mean Im a 9w5? 5w9? Either way? I read both descriptions, dont know which fits me more, probably the 9, but both were pretty accurate.I also relate to a lot of your descriptions of yourself. IE I too find it hard to form an opinion on something I havent actually experienced, same with advice. Have a hard time giving advice unless the situation hits home with me.

Okay, so looked into it a little more, apparently w is your wing, and its supposed to be adjacent to your main. So I scored the same on 9 and 5. Im definitely not a 9w8 or a 5w4. I cant decide if 9w1 or 5w6 fits me more.

Reading about them and trying to self-diagnose myself honestly, I think I would fall more on a 9/6 mix.

I used to have a hard time about Enneagram, too. I identified equally well with types 9 and 4, but after some soul searching I settled at 9 because of I relate a lot better to the 9's basic fear and desire, and my coping mechanism is more 9 than 4, but of course with 4 still in my tritype (if you believe that kind of thing). Reading this Misidentifications of Enneagram Personality Types helps a lot

I was kinda surprised to find I was a 9w1 first, followed closely by 5w6. Kinda makes me wonder how common type 9s (even in the tritype) are among ISTPs.

Then again, I do have a somewhat strong feeling side....

I think the 9 represses my Se* and makes me more 'introverted', more afraid to try new things. That said, I'm not sure if the 8 wing contributes to my temper. ;) I have a feeling my Fi is more subdued than that of a 4 or a 7, for instance. Still very much present, but less... vivid.

*already repressed because of a vision impairment + shitty social skills. :frustrating:

I'm 9w1, definitely agree that being a 9 lessens the effect Se has and causes me to be more prone to being in Fi-Ni loops. I can fall into them relatively quickly, and I have to watch myself to make sure I don't get to far.

I have trouble hearing things, not enough that it causes a lot of problems but I often have to ask people to repeat what they said, especially over the phone or if there's a lot of noise coming from other places. Maybe having slight impairments encourages 9's drive for harmony, so that the impairments don't cause stress?
