I'm emotional, and drawn to raw, powerful emotions. But I'm repelled by gloopy sentimentality.

My Dad, an INTJ, isn't emotional at all and is repelled by emotions. But he can be soppily sentimental and nostalgic.

I have never understood why!

I've noticed that I am an unsentimental person and I was wondering if this was a common trait among INFJs. It seems we would be sentimental - but I dunno.

....

My running theory is this:
INFJs use Ni & Ti for reflection - not particularly prone to emotion.
INTJs use Ni & Fi for reflection - Fi will go ahead and personally add that extra bit of sentimental value.
I know INFJs are supposed to be very sentimental; not so sure INFJs are not, though. Perhaps we do use Ni & Ti for reflection; but, Fe is still sitting in the middle of the stack ready to contribute.

Anyway, I'm pretty sentimental. Like, I'll get teary at movies and be glad to be wearing the 3D glasses. (Too bad movies on TV are not 3D.) Plenty of times while reading, too.

And I like to keep things to remind me of happenings. Stuff like ticket stubs, badges, cards, ... mostly get put in a top dresser drawer. They show up each time I clean the drawer and remind me again of whatever. Kind of fun.

Sometimes I'll keep a part of some old (faithful) appliance or other machine when it's finally dumped. Like the big knob of a dishwasher or the shifter ball of a car. They are reminders of the feel of the original.

INFJs are not all so cold to such feelings as some may imagine.
