Why is Snapchat so Weird?

I don't understand the really really weird "stories". This is really hard to explain. I mean what's with the dumbed down short videos, annoying music and everything, it's just super odd. The titles don't even match the content of the video. There's one second of actual content referring to the title and the rest is unrelated or indirectly related.

And I started watching a "show" on Snapchat which is also strange.

Maybe I'm just "too old" or generation Alpha is doomed with this watered content. (Or the generation gaps are becoming more significant as technology updates at a rapid pace. For example if you're 5 years older than someone you can still relate to the younger person a little bit. But these days even if there's a 3 year gap things just seem unrelatable.)

I don't understand Snapchat. And why would you want to add random famous people, or anyone random for that matter? Isn't it supposed to be private? I mean I know you don't HAVE to add randoms but still.

It's like video Twitter or something.

Why do you get rewarded for posting pictures everyday. Wtaf.

I don't know maybe I am cough "old".

The point of Snapchat is that the messages (including pics and vids) disappear after some time, and you get notified if people screenshot your post/msg—so people feel safe to use it for risqué purposes.

That’s mostly it.

It’s nearly obsolete now because every other social media also jumped on the “stories” bandwagon, and added disappearing messages/“secret chats,” making Snapchat more or less irrelevant now.

Short, quick videos seem to be the trend. Probably has to do with people’s attention span nowadays. Even Youtube has a little “short videos” section, reminiscent of TikTok—usually containing TikTok reposts actually. I still have not and most likely will never get TikTok though. And Snapchat is pointless now too.
