I don't think LW has been typed in its own thread for awhile.

Jo: I agree with the majority typing of ESTP, though she seems a lot like a feeler at times (but ESFP doesn't suit her well). She fits the idea of ENTP well imo but just doesn't have many Intuitive traits. She's not really a "theory" person, she loves DOING things, right now, if that's what she wants.

Meg: my favorite, xSFJ. She enjoys parties and people usually find her unassuming nature charming but doesn't particularly seem people-oriented to me so I'll go with ISFJ. She almost seems even shy at times, but that may just be because she's a poor girl daunted by the splendor of the rich people she's friends with. She's the sensible Team Mom character, adores beauty almost as much as Amy and likes romance, acting, and her "burden" in life has been trying not to be vain.

Amy: ESFP or ENFJ. Aesthetic artist, very charismatic, likes pleasing people and is good at it. She and Jo are rivals at times but I think they're rather alike. When she grows up she's becomes more assertive and witty and starts letting go of her selfish tendencies.

Beth: INFJ stereotype. Could be the ISFJ she's nearly always typed as, but she seems more idealistic and just fits the "martyr/savior" type better imo. either way, she screams so much Fe.

Laurie: ESFP. More passionate and easily offended than Jo. He lives in the moment and enjoys parties, books, fine art, new sights, etc. He's extremely charismatic and good at "wheedling" back into people's good graces.

Marmie: Flawless ENFJ.

John Brooke: INFP.

Bhaer: ENTP

If anyone wants to even attempt typing their kids, be my guest! All I know is Daisy = ISFJ, Josy = ESFP.

Going off the 1994 movie...

Jo: ENFP. I have ten stories in my head right now!

Meg: ISFJ. Duty! Tradition! Generosity!

Beth: INFP, but she seems heavy on the Fi and Si. She still has all her dolls and painstakingly dresses them each morning. I considered ISFJ, but she really doesn't Fe-talk about her feelings... only on her deathbed.

Amy: ENFJ. Knows what she wants and gets it. Lots and lots of need for affirmation, boldness, and a few tantrums. She grows up into a lovely ENFJ, though.

Marmee: ESFJ. Tradition. Structure. Kindness.

Laurie: INFJ or ISFP. I don't think he's an extrovert, considering he hides in a corner when at a party where he doesn't know anyone. I tend to think INFJ because I think he has a pretty strong Ni (he knows what's coming before it arrives, and predicts a lot of things accurately about the March family) and when he leaves to be a painter and fulfill "his dream" -- he's miserable. I think he has a Fe-need to please everyone, particularly his grandfather. He seems happier when he settles back into a more predictable lifestyle (J-trait).

Professor Bhaer -- I WANT to say INFP. Not much external emotion but he strongly pushes Jo to be "true to herself," which is something a Fi-user would value a great deal. Likes new ideas but also clings to the old -- his books, his memories of Germany, etc. Very kind, but seems rather self-contained and quiet. (May be different in the book; I haven't read it in years.)

I always thought Jo was an ENTP that went through her ESFP phase (Laurie) , like all we ENTP's do, but finally married Professor Bhaer, an INFJ.

He's intellectual and reserved but his whole motivation for tutoring in New York is supporting his niece. He has strong values and is gentle, emotionally stable, and supportive.

I agree with most of these typings except... I think you all have Jo and Amy's S vs N completely switched...why on earth do people think Amy is an ENFJ?? There is NOTHING intuitive about her imo... she's a Sensor to a tee. And how is Jo ESTP? The ESTP's I've met like to make fun of artistic things like writing, and I can't see an ESTP loving literature as much as Jo does. I'd say Jo is ENTP, and Amy is ESFx.
